Tears Of The Sun had a longer Director's Cut released on DVD but this has been absent from the Blu Ray. I used the US DVD, took the extra footage and went through a process of de-haloing, cleaning, upscaling and sharpening. I used both avisynth and topaz for this. Then I regrained the footage in After Effects using a section of the blu ray grain. Thankfully the color grading was the same so no additional colour grading was necessary.
The blu ray is not the best looking, this also had edge enhancement so I applied de-haloing to this as well. I then rebuilt the movie using both sources and matched it frame for frame to the DVD. The audio is the 5.1 AC3 from the DVD untouched. In terms of the extras everything is ported from the DVD.
The final result is not perfect and I found that some of the extra footage, even in the DVD, looked lower quality then the rest of the footage. However I did the best I could.
