Only issues are that not all the IMAX shots were included on the bonus disc in their OAR, so I've zoomed 1.78 shots in, but it cuts off the sides; and the scene in Rises in the sewer where it transitions from 2.40 to 1.43 isn't smooth like it should be (probably because it should be 2.39, so the sizing is a tad off).

Recently, because of The Shining being butchered on BD, I've been thinking that studiis should release on BD any film that has already been released in alternative AR (other than pan and scan) (so if a movie was shot in open matte, but only ever presented matted, those are excluded). If a film was shown on TV open matte, or released on LD/VHS/DVD that way, it should be in HD, as well. I've come across some opposition to this, as it may compromise the director's vision (and you get movies revealing things, like boom mics, props, etc.)--which I get--but it's already been released that way. It's not anything new, and it doesn't have to be the default version, yet an alternative option.
Back to The Shining for example: shot in 1.37 but never shown that way so that's out; shown on TV/DVD in open 1.33; released theatrically in 1.66 and 1.85. That should be three different options. Forget the cropped BD 1.78. I started a petition, but it never gained traction (and I don’t believe I addressed it to the right parties ).

I'm still kicking a few of these projects around. Particularly the ones listed in post2. The video is done for Predator so I thought I would make an Arnold Trilogy of (some of) his best films with an upscale of:
5. Predator w/PCM from the LD and color corrected 6. Terminator 2 w/PCM and AC3 from the LDs and DVDs and using the color patterns from this thread: https://fanrestore.com/thread-588.html?h...rminator+2 7. Total Recall w/PCM from the LD and color corrected I now have a new rig that can just turn the upscale video out.

I'm a bit confused about TDK, shouldn't the IMAX scenes be as wide as the widescreen? ie the image get taller, not narrower?

I don't follow Stamper, the Imax shots are close to 4:3 so they should be pillarboxed on the sides to fit in the 16:9 HD spec.

The IMAX sequences (1.43:1 OAR) were cropped to 16:9 for the Blu Ray release. To do a true IMAX presentation on a home format would require the 2.35:1 anamorphic shots to be windowboxed.

True but no one would want to watch the 2.35 windowboxed on a 16:9 TV. On an old 4:3 it would look perfect.
