What are you watching?
High and Low, in advance of the Spike Lee joint soon to release. Remains one of the all the greats, and just beautiful to watch.

Went into Super Dark Times (2017) blind off a recommendation for a movie that has a sudden turn of pace. It was unexpected but interesting

I just watched the most extended cut of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly projected with a true 4K videoprojector on a 106" screen and it looked awesome. That's so cool to watch those classics on a big screen. The transfer looks very healthy and even the additional parts blend in almost perfectly. There's really not a big gap in quality. There's only one thing I'm not too sure about: the opening title and the ending "The End" are off-centered. One too much on the right, the other too much on the left. Is it normal? Appart from that, the framing is a bit more generous than the MGM mastered in 4K Blu-ray and very much more generous in some shots of the captain in the bridge scene when he meets Blondie and Tuco.

I just watched The Naked Gun (2025). Well, it's a disappointment. Most of the good jokes were in the trailers, the pacing is quite boring and yet it lasts only 1h25mn. They didn't even make the classic opening credits and put the original one as part of the end credits. Frankly I expected a lot more after seeing rather good reviews. Definitely not on par with the original trilogy.

Pretty much what I expected. Glad I passed on it.

Watched Weapons (2025) last weekend, and what I thought was a horror movie turned out to be closer to a thriller with touches of comedy? Wasn't a bad movie, just not what I expected to see going into it. I'd recommend it as something fun to put on when you can't think of anything to watch.

I was considering giving it a watch. The synopsis sounds intriguing, and the reviews are rather positive. Should be a good entertainment if there's comedy in it, too.

I'm not sure that it's meant to be funny but me and my son were laughing our heads off at times.

Oh, its meant to be funny, I also laughed. The Director comes from a comedy place and has confirmed you are meant to laugh.

Haven't done a rundown in a long time on this thread so now seems like a good time after Beber has resurrected it. Here is Part 1 of 2025

Weapons - One of the best films I've seen this year. As others have said does the horror/comedy mix well with great performances around. Particularly, an actress I haven't seen in a long time. I thought the structure of the movie would be a turn off but it really enhanced the experience. 4/5

The Long Walk - The movie that we were told "unfilmable" for years. And now it is here. What should be boring is really elevated by great characters portrayed by Hoffman and Jonsson. I really think after this and Romulus, that Jonsson is really a great actor. One problem, aren't the actors way too old for the material? Well more then one problem, a bigger problem: the ending. It's bad and kind off undermines the film as a whole. 3/5

Caught Stealing - I'm hit or miss on Aronofsky. This one hit but more then likely because Aronofsky is trying to make a crowd pleaser even though it failed at the Box Office. Nice to see Butler in a less larger-then-life role as burned out semi-dirt bag. How much you like this might depends on one character's death. I'm still thinking about how much that hurts or helps the story. Overall still enjoyed it. 3.5/5

Fantastic Four - Did its job well but was nothing special. Like many, I tire of Pascal 3/5

Superman - Very mixed on this one. The characters are well drawn and the actors are really good at bringing them to the screen. Superman, Lane, Luthor, Mr Terrific, Guy, etc are about the best portrayals you can get. Otherwise the script is pretty dumb. The final conflict is CGI hell. I expected better writing from Gunn. 3/5

28 Years Later - After that amazing trailer this was a bit of a disappointment. The first section is amazingly tense. The second section is very emotionally complex. Problem is I don't think the two parts connect very well at all. It felt almost like an anthology rather a complete story. And then there was that ending. 3/5 if I'm being generous.

Jurassic World Rebirth - New dinosaurs but nothing new to add. 2.5/5

F1 - You like Top Gun: Maverick? Cool lets run it back only with Pitt and F1 racecars. I will say it made me enjoy F1 racing which I had no interest in before. Amazing cinematography but terrible sound mix. In the end a boiler plate story but too fun for me to hate. 4/5

Ballerina - Fine. It's fine. Good action, weak story. Armas is trying hard and I appreciate that. 3/5

Highest to Lowest - I think Lee should stay away from remakes. Also I've never seen Denzel Washington give a bad performance but man this was pretty close to that line. Wright feels like he is getting it. And it had the worst music mix I have ever heard in a movie. 2/5

The Phoenician Scheme - Like Aronofsky, I'm hit or miss on Anderson. Didn't care for Asteroid City but I liked this a fair bit better. del Toro is on top of his game. Alternatively it could be called Cameo: The Movie. 3.5/5

Fountain of Youth - Awful, so awful. Indiana Jones without the fun or charm. 1.5/5

M:I - The Final Reckoning - Not good. Somehow worse then last one with the same faults but only amplified. Disjointed, unrelated scenes being thrown at the audience. Some super strange attempts to work in the plots from the older films. But that ending is amazing. The mid point action scene was not as great as I hoped. 2.5/5

Thunderbolts - This was a good attempt to elevate lesser characters. Harbor is once again the MVP. I appreciate doing something different with the final villain. 3/5
