From the back cover: “At the present day, the best version of the movie was the HD-DVD. But the overall quality was not exceptional; even if grain level was better than subsequent Blu-ray editions, colors are wrong, and the noise floor was a bit too high.

With this version, the video was slightly denoised, and a proper grain plate from real 35mm film was added; the same master used for the laserdisc, known to be very close to the theatrical colors, here was used to regrade the video, and get rid also of that nasty pink shift.

English main audio track is the DTS 5.1 taken directly from the DTS Cinema track; French, Italian, Spanish and German 5.1 Dolby Digital tracks are included.

Six subtitles tracks are included as well: English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, plus the English SDH.”

Planning to re-release all my FC; mainly with higher video bitrate, and including original language lossless audio track when available and not included in V1.

For Waterworld, I've toned down the denoise, and added a slight sharpening - very slight indeed; more important, I've managed to solve some color problems that is mainly noticeable in the skin tones, where in the shadows it appears greyish; in V2 it would be resolved, leaving the other colors unaffected.

WARNING: picture 3 in the following comparison contains a naked girl, so if you are under 18 or don't want to see a naked body, even if it's just a rear view, just don't show the third picture; you may ask why I have used this if there could be a problem... simple, it's a self-explanatory picture of the problem described before - the more skin, the more problem, the better result of correction.

If you are re-release this, it might be fun to push the colors more towards Willarob's 35mm trailer, etc. More orange skin, yellower picture, more saturated blues, etc. It's a very 35mm look.

True on top and bottom (open matte)! Also, different frame positions (one has more details on one side, the other on the opposite side) and rotations.

May you post something more about the bitrate, resolution etc.?

According to the screenshot, and the mediainfo, it seems very nice - maybe very near to HD-DVD and BD quality (apart eventually grain, but it could be added later); can you confirm that?
