There is a very very small possibility that Arrow Video might be releasing this in the future. They teased 4 titles on April Fools Day and said guess which one makes the cut

I put a wrong image instead the right one Eek sorry, my bad!

Correct comparison:
Old FC Vs NEW FC: http://ultimateaspectratio.ga/Waterworld...62749.html

if someone wants to see the difference with the previous, wrong image
Wrong Vs Right: http://ultimateaspectratio.ga/Waterworld...62749.html

@Stamper: I don't see EE - the new one even fix some errors, like the rope over the girl's right leg; take a look at the correct version.

@OogieBoogie: the same, probably you'll like the correct version most.

@Bigrob: we'll see, even if I'll not hold my breath...

@PDB: you caught me! Happy well, even if it's not the nicest specimen, you must admit it's one of the best shot in the film...

got to say, overall I would still choose the left side, which I think is your old copy, yes, I can see what looks like a detail gain in the new version, but it's that cyan tint that just looks wrong to my eyes.

OK, I finished V3 "in yer face!" version!

FC NEW Vs V3: http://ultimateaspectratio.ga/Waterworld...62749.html

FC OLD Vs V3: http://ultimateaspectratio.ga/Waterworld...62749.html

WEB OM Vs V3: http://ultimateaspectratio.ga/Waterworld...62749.html

V3 Vs LD: http://ultimateaspectratio.ga/Waterworld...62749.html

V3 is the closest to LD as possible; I just removed the magenta blanket that plagues the LD (as well as many other sources of that era, and not only); so, you get an high "punchy" contrast, with some clipping whites, but it gives you a more theatrical gritty feel; I think it retains the original laserdisc "spirit", without some of its faults.

Now, if this reflects what the colors of a theatrical projected print looked at the release time, I can't say; still, it has the nicest colors, so far.

Umm, you've lost me a little, do you mean for a cover or using that color base for grading or both?
For a cover I think it is very cool, though that level of saturation and sharpness for the film would be like applying HDR to it, not necessarily a bad thing, just different. To be perfectly honest it's something I would be very interested in seeing.

I was talking about cover, but every feedback is welcome!

Don't know if it could be seen as a sort of "HDR improvement", as I've never watched a movie in HDR (my fault!); for sure, it is very interesting as color grading, and at the time I've seen HD-DVD (skipped DVD entirely as the laserdisc version, in particular PAL with its increased resolution was great) for the first time, I asked myself: "there is something wrong with it, but dunno why..." - then I realized how mute colors were in comparison; bear with me, if you watch it "as is", without other reference (previously seen) or direct comparison, colors are not wrong; still, when you compare both, laserdisc colors are vastly superior... now, if they were closer to the theatrical prints than HD-DVD/BD/DVD/WEB I don't know, still it is my preffered way to watch this movie!

Sidenote: I have an half idea to add both English and Italian untouched PCM in the next version, captured from laserdisc, along with French one "distilled" from the extended edition; it would be great to find both German and Spanish laserdiscs captures!

Laser Disc was the only format I missed, went from VHS straight to dvd's, so I can't make any comment on that side. From my reading here I must admit I am a tad jealous as it seems that LD used original audio in many cases and that is my favorite thing about films, the soundtracks, at least it is with my favorite films.
But going back to your comparisons, your V3 had the colorbase of LD with increased detail, so in that sense it was a clear winner to my eyes. But if you ever decided to do a copy where the saturation and sharpness was similar to that cover I would definitely be interested in that as well, it would be similar to what that dude did with his upscale of Rogue One I think it was, he basically created a false HDR system that activates the HDR systems on applicable screens, a cheat. Very, very clever imo.
