It might be a bit crude but I'm thinking if I just mux the audio track to be synced into an mkv of the video file, then use that to work out roughly where it slips out of sync and then go in an edit in Audacity.

I just encode the video of both in low quality, with the sound untouched.
Import in FCPX, make a split screen, and adjust whenever there's a visible visual going out of sync, patching with the other audio if necessary.

You can open an external audio track with VLC, and use J or K for - or + Delay. I think opening both audios its easier.

I use Premiere, you get video reference and waveforms with it, it's very practical. If you're thinking to use it but RAM is not enough for heavy-duty work then I recommend what Stamper suggested, re-encode the video to a much lower quality and less CPU-consuming size and leave PCM audio untouched. Once you have synched the audio you can export just that, ready to mux it with the original video file.

The important thing to remember when using video reference for syncing is to use 'frame accurate' codecs/source filters. Low-res lossless AVIs are good. Otherwise you run the risk of losing sync as you scrub back and forth on the timeline.
Is reaper still the best program for bit-perfect editing (ie avoiding resampling)?

Hey guys. I am syncing a laserdisc PCM rip to BD but not sure which settings in Audacity to use.
The original WAV file is 24bit 44100Hz. However after importing the file it sets the file to 32bit float. If I export the file it defaults to 16 bit. And I noticed a lot of releases on here are 16bit. Which settings should I be using?

A bit of a longshot but are there any free software which allows me to sync audio using video as reference?
I need to sync a PAL sourced audio dub track which will be slowed down to 23.976 to an NTSC video. So I will not have any audio reference, purely video. I can't afford Adobe Premier or Audition or Final Cut.
