[Canceled] The Blade Runner Regrade Collection (Restored DC and IC Regrade v2.0)
If the IC violence was reintegrated into the DC as it was supposed to have been had WB given Michael Arick enough time to do so then the DC would be definitive. The audio mix is the best, the color grading and detail is spot on without any tweaking, none of the effects are messed with in any way. That DC print was amazing and even better than the FC one which itself was leagues ahead of the BD release.

I haven't watched the FC in years. I got to where I couldn't stand the color changes and overall just how non-1982 it was. It really obscures much of the greatness of what they were able to achieve at the time in production, picture and sound.

Not about my project but I didn't want to start another thread. I know BR2049 used a lot of CGI but I was surprised to see the amount of old school model work they did:

I saw an old snapcase DVD of the DC. Is it worth buying? What is there that isn't on the box set?

The snapper is the old laserdisc transfer. Same ld transfer that's the basis for this project. Only problem is that the DVD version is like all early warner dvds and they added a ton of red to the picture that the ld doesn't have. Same thing happened with Road Warrior/Mm2.

That's why I'm using the laserdisc version and not the DVD.

Is the Dolby Surround mix from this on the Blu-ray set? I can't remember.

I always say if it's cheap you'll never know when you'll need it. Wink

The DC mix is not on the archival disc as they made a new track and conformed it to all three. My guess is that they used the newer master made for the 2006 DC limited DVD reissue before the boxset and conformed that to the TC and IC for the archival disc.

The stereo mixes on the HD-DVD are different for the DC and theatrical, and I'm pretty sure they are the original ones (the 5.1 mix is the same for all three cuts, with branching). I would imagine they would keep it the same on the bluray.

I'm going to try for another of my mix histories - as always, let me know if I've missed anything or got something wrong! Best home listening choices for each mix (IMO) are in bold.

1982 theatrical release - Dolby Stereo and 70mm 6-track

( various 1980s VHS releases - analogue/hi-fi stereo derived from Dolby Stereo mix)

1983-1987 Embassy laserdiscs - analogue stereo derived from Dolby Stereo mix

1987 Criterion laserdisc - PCM stereo derived from Dolby Stereo mix (International Cut)

1992 Director’s Cut theatrical release - new Dolby Stereo mix

1993 Director’s Cut laserdisc - PCM stereo derived from DC Dolby Stereo mix

1997 Director’s Cut DVD - Dolby Digital 2.0 derived from DC Dolby Stereo mix

2006 ‘remastered’ Director’s Cut DVD - Dolby Digital 2.0 derived from DC Dolby Stereo mix

2007 Final Cut theatrical release - new FC Dolby Digital 5.1 mix

2007 DVD/Blu-ray/HD-DVD -
Theatrical/International/Director’s Cut: new, branched Dolby Digital 5.1 mix (‘original, unaltered 5.1 sound taken from archival six-tracks’*), Dolby Digital 2.0 (not branched, believed to be ported from earlier IC/DC masters)
Final Cut - new FC Dolby Digital 5.1 mix (in TrueHD on the HD formats)
Workprint - unfinished workprint mix (Dolby Digital 5.1 / DTS-HD MA 5.1 on latest issue)

*This claim is in the letter from Ridley Scott from the 5-disc boxset. As captainsolo says, since it's a shared soundtrack, it's most likely to originate from the DC mix materials rather than the more vintage mixes.

@jonno

I am not sure where that fits into your history, but the most common Workprint mix I've seen is the Dolby Digital 5.1. On a particular expensive collector's Blu Ray box, the workprint even has a DTS-HD MA 5.1 track. I've never seen a 2.0 track though.
