I've completed a composite version of the RIC in 720p. I have built 5.1 audio for the new scenes that were only ever in stereo or more likely mono on the broadcast. The original release of the RIC has a low bitrate ac3 file, so 5.1 DTSHD-MA is a marked step up.

If anyone with a surround sound set up would like a preview and can offer feedback on the mix, let me know. I only have stereo speakers, so I would like a second opinion before I release the edit to the masses.

I'll take what I can get to be honest. After many requests for updates over at the OT and on Myspleen, I finally have it ready to go and nobody appears to be bothered.

I'm new, but count me in as a Superman II fanatic.  I have the original ABC airing in its entirety on betamax - brought it into a local store for conversion to DVD.  With tracking adjusted, the quality appears excellent.  But the final product won't be ready for another 2 weeks or so.

Never heard of the International cut with even more scenes until today.  It's just not the same movie with all the edits!  It simply bothers me when I watch the movie with all the scenes removed.  Just got a recent airing on SYFY on my DVR.  Still fun, but not the same.  Have my fingers crossed that the betamax conversion will go according to plan!

I found the RIC in 4:3 in an older copy, yet the whole thing appears to be a VHSRip (8 GB is the total size).

Your file, however, has 16 GB in 720p, in a mixture of 4:3 scenes in this quality and others that probably only exist as VHSRips.

So what do you mean by "composite version"? Did you just pick the DVD or BD in Widescreen and cut the image into 4:3, then combined with these scenes in low quality?

I think there's only one official 4:3 version from the theatrical cut: it's from the LASERDISC.

Another thing that caught my attention was the runtime. In the 8 GB file it is 2h25m59s. Your file, on the other hand, has 2h31m08s.

My version is a composite, as in chopped together, version combining the highest available quality where possible and the vhs for the rest. The bluray footage was all recoloured. Some shots that have really blown out whites, like the lift exploding in space are taken from the HDTV broadcast which used the pre bluray dvd master. The widescreen footage was cropped at the top and bottom to remove the black bars and pan and scanned to match the RIC broadcast. I took a few liberties on some shots for better framing as I had a larger image to play with.

I can't really remember my work flow as it was a while back, I can only assume I slowed the RIC vhs audio to make it sync with the bluray footage and that would account for the variation in the runtime.
