[Help] Armageddon 1998 Laserdisc audio?
#31
You could use .wav or .wavpack too correct? I mean FLAC is just a container for lossless audio.

FLAC is a codec, not just a container.

It depends on what your final playback option is

- playing primarily in a HTPC environment: FLAC is no problem
- final output as a Blu-ray: FLAC is NOT an option. Then you only have 3 option: Dolby, DTS or PCM

This would be interesting. At first I thought the bd was fine as it's a Disney title and they generally leave 90's action films alone such as Crimson Tide and The Rock...or now I wonder...
Good luck with the research!

It is getting more interesting, as I gave the blu a spin last night and in terms of dynamic range it's very similar to the DTS DVD, perhaps a little less harsh in the really loud stuff (DVDs tended to get a re-eq as well as near field remixing). But I swear the LFE is deeper on the DTS DVD, as in 'depths of hell' deep. I recall something about the blu cutting off at 50hz but I'll have to check that out. Hopefully the laserdisc mixes will have some more dynamic range.
I'll have to compare mixes for The Rock next as I have the blu ray (5.1 PCM) and the Japanese DTS laserdisc. Oh yeah

Exactly.

Though, since FLAC is lossless too, it's easy to transcode to DTS-HD MA for anyone who wishes to do so. No real loss involved.

Question: how do you do that without DTS's proprietary tools?
