[Help] Armageddon 1998 Laserdisc audio?
#41
In short: Master and Commander had on BD the LFE castrated.
The DVD has some extreme LFE, which can kill your subwoofer. IIRC it goes below 20Hz.

Thanks bendermac, just had a quick Google and yeah they filtered the LFE.
The things studios do I'll never understand.
I'll check Armageddon's LFE later.

There is a BD of M&C that doesn’t have the filtered LFE. It was released in Europe but can’t recall where exactly. The info was on Blu-ray.com forum

Yeah this is the difference in the LFE:

M&C was always my sound demo on DVD. It is an AMAZING soundtrack. So I was disappointed with the BD.

Like Bigrob said there was talk of a fix in Europe, Australia and even a later BD in the US but haven't seen (um..heard) it yet.

It was the Australian release. Confirmed here http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=29230&page=19

FLAC is a codec, not just a container.

In an HTCP environment it works both ways, so yeah, that way it is.

I would say using "for educational purposes only" methods but that's just a guess.

Wink

Besides, I believe Tom is working at creating/adjusting audio for those who use headphones to watch movies, and I don't know that he's posted what methods he will be using. It's my understanding that he is working mainly on movies he enjoys and sharing with anyone that feels like he does about his choices. I also could be entirely wrong which does happen to me sometimes, lol.

PDB what software did you use to plot this chart?

You are not wrong. Headphones are a great thing when you have many neighbors and still want to enjoy a movie, like me. Honestly, buying surround speakers would not be a big problem, but running them in a nice way without making myself enemies here ... well.

As for the methods, I might have mentioned it already. I'm using foobar2000's Dolby Headphone wrapper. Someday I might be able to use DTS:X Headphone or Dolby Atmos Headphone (Windows 10 already has an app for it, but it's only for playback, not conversion), for even better quality. That will be even cooler.

TBH I don't think the LFE's been filtered on the Armageddon blu ray. Considering the fuss made over M&C I think I would have dug something up online by now. It does seem that a lot of titles (mostly newer releases) have indeed been filtered though. Seems a bit daft really

It's definitely a niche area for releases. I personally will just turn down my audio some instead of having to resort to headphones. I don't watch it like that in the theater so I won't watch it that way at home. That is my preference though. No harm in others wanting to give their headphones a work out.
