If you're gonna do the Cinema DTS thing, why not also apply a LUT that approximates the cinematic colors?
This auction has some images of film strips: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Dare-Devil-35mm-...1328566133 The images are low resolution, but should be good enough for creating a LUT with DrDre's tool with the corresponding images from the source, perhaps with a little darker blacks (probably weren't adjusted for the scan). Applying that LUT for a re-render is trivial (can be done via ffmpeg pipe -> x264). I'd be willing to try and create such LUTs if there's any interest from your side.

Hmm, how do you tell? Although I guess it would make sense from a business perspective.
