We already know thanks to MrBrown they dropped the theatrical cut in Germany, so no chance there.

Yeah, the fact that some countries had only the SE doesn't help.

That might well use the same assets as the Spanish BD, only with the addition of extra subtitles.  Both are the SE.

The french double Blu-ray is VC1 too for disc 1 & 2.

The image is blah by the way. I say the 2015 edition might be the best version of this master regarding the picture quality.

According to information contributed by members here, a 2008 era release might contain the CDS mix only if it's the theatrical cut. If your foreign edition Blu-ray only contains the SE it's 99% certain it has the remix.

I have never fully compared but I really like, in the beginning future war sequence, how loud the in-your-face laser blast a T800 fires at the audience on the Skynet Edition sounds on the rear channels. It's no longer like that since the 2015 US reissue, neither on the new remaster, which I regret since it would have been a nice and relevant combo for a 3D presentation.

They look like they are all the same except if you get your hands on the laserdisc rip, which is probably the old Dolby Surround mix with the new scenes added in mixed for the first time.

Now there maybe a Dolby Surround DVD or Blu release of the SE somewhere that has that old mix, but I'm not expecting a miracle. I noted that when Dolby Surround tracks were included in some release like the japanese Blu (also used in Team Blu release), they are actually a Dolby Surround version of the 1999 remix.

To sum it up:

Original mixes (english language)

Theatrical:
- 1991 mix in Stereo (R1 DVD 1997)
- 1991 mix in Dolby Surround (most Laserdiscs, maybe on a Studio Canal Pal DVD?)
- CDS 1991 mix (AC3 LD + R1 early DVD + all the StudioCanal DVDs, Blu + HD DVD listed above)
- 1999 5.1 remix (on Ultimate edition, X-Treme edition, Blu-rays etc. also in Dolby Surround on some releases and Ex on some releases)


SE:
- 1991 mix in Dolby Surround with new scenes added (On Laserdiscs, not sure it's on a DVD or Blu anywhere)
- 1999 remix (on Ultimate edition, X-Treme edition, Blu-rays etc. also in Dolby Surround on some releases and Ex on some releases)

I think the 2015 difference Beber notes, might be due to remastering and compressing the dynamic range maybe (didn't check it out but it appears to be the 1999 mix to me on both Skynet and the new disc and the 2015 only with differents levels/mastering).

There appear to be variable mixes for foreign dubs The french version was stereo, then Dolby Surround until it got switched to 5.1 based on the CDs mix with one mix full of boomy bass, and one mix/remastering without, there is a german 6.1 EX I think. I'm not sure but the EX version would sound the same as any 5.1 version on a 5.1 set up so do we need to count those as separate mixes?

It could be cool if we could expand this list / correct it to include information on foreign dubs mixes. The 1997 R1 DVD have the french stereo and the spanish stereo.

Here's what I can make out of this chaos for the french dubs:

- 1991 stereo mix (on R1 1997 DVD)
- 1991 Dolby Surround mix (Pal Pioneer 1998 DVD)
- Remix in 5.1 based on the 1991 CDS mix (need to go back and read on what discs)
- Dolby Surround remix maybe? I need to buy all the T2 pal french discs I can find used to sort it out LOL

Fellow forumers from Germany, sort it out for the german dubs and list them!

I was asking because I'm considering "patching" the CDS mix for the Extended Cut, but to do that I'd want to get the best sounding mix of the SE in 5.1 (I'd add the SE bits into the CDS mix on a channel by channel basis, matching levels and such as best I can to keep the transitions as invisible as possible). It might be worth it to get a bunch of different SE mixes (foreign dubs included) and use the best bits from each channel of each mix, or at least the ones that blend best with the CDS mix.

Something worth pursuing or a waste of time?

I was thinking of something like that, too. But I wouldn't be able to do so in lossless, nor would I be able to adjust differences in volume, etc. So, on a channel by channel basis, that's way off my league!

Maybe the clues were there all those years ago...
I've heard talk of a 'Studiocanal remix' for a long long time, never once considered that it could be the original mix. Interestingly he says he owned the first squeeze laserdisc but didn't like it, yet doesn't equate it with the 'Studiocanal remix', so maybe it is a remix of some kind after all.
