[Released] Terminator 2 CDS mix
(2017-12-03, 10:01 AM)Stamper Wrote: Is that a monitor hum I see at 16khz?

Looks that way. I just noticed the same thing in a trailer I was watching. Whenever the voices became louder, this high frequency pheeping came in too. I used to think that this was somehow done on purpose, but with a notch filter to get rid of it, it sounds much better and less painful. Quite fascinating.

I can confirm, that the 4:3 Disc is from Russia. It seemed to be a normal release there...

I found a French HD DVD, but unfortunately it seems to be a different one. It's the TC and appears to contain the new mix and an authoring error.

Quote:EVO, 1 video track, 3 audio tracks, 2:17:15
1: Joined EVO file
2: Chapters, 12 chapters
3: VC-1, 1080p24 /1.001 (16:9) with pulldown flags
4: DTS, French, 5.1 channels, 1509kbps, 48kHz
5: DTS Master Audio, English, 5.1 channels, 16 bits, 48kHz
  (core: DTS, 5.1 channels, 1509kbps, 48kHz)
6: DTS, French, 2.0 channels, 768kbps, 48kHz
[v03] This EVO/VOB file contains authoring faults. Will try to work around that. (263)  <WARNING>

Does the other HD DVD show an authoring error when demuxing with eac3to?

My contains that authoring error, also.

Are you sure that it is the new mix? ATM, I think best indicator is the percussion at the beginning, when/after the resistance guy is killed, with the new mixes it is totally absent.

I didn't listen to it, but if that's what the 5.1 looks like on the HD DVD, the DVD is a better source.

EDIT: I think you might be right and that it's the new mix. If so, there's been some sort of processing applied. I wondered if something like this might happen. If there's one thing I've learnt from Moshrom's blog it's that the source with the best specs doesn't always contain the best audio.

Could it be, that StudioCanal just did a shitty job by reencoding the compressed DTS Track, to have the DTS-MA selling point?

Edit:
The japanese DVD was also from StudioCanal, at least it contains the StudioCanal Logo on the front side.

I think it's more likely that the track was processed somehow.

It's all in the mix Smile

MrBrown, could you send me the HD-DVD track to check out?

Looks like noise reduction was applied to the HD-DVD, watch the cut off of the hum at 16khz.
The Blu-ray was released about a year later I hope there is no authoring mistake.

Chewbacca looks like the Japan DTS is the best so far no?

Is the HD-DVD in the right tone? Studio Canal had a few released then with pitched Pal audio stretched to 24fps.

AC-3:

So far, I think the JP DVD is the best source.
