The Great Silence (1968) [SW] Grindhouse (35mm-German)
#11
I haven't seen this film.
These are screenshots from the German Bluray.

This Grindhouse scan looks much better colorwise than the greenish bluray.
Curious to see how the Kino will be.

US BD will probably use new 4k scan.
Has been restored in 4K by the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia – Cineteca Nazionale of Rome using the film’s original negatives and sound elements.

Highly recommended another Snow-Western film.
The Dark Valley - Das finstere Tal from 2014 Austrian-German production.

So fact check here, so I know I'm on the right page.

The German Deluxe release comes with two copies: One is a new restored, cleaned up copy (with Italian credits?), German, French and original Italian audio. The second video is a (Mike Siegel's?) copy of a rare German "Grindhouse" print with German credits and audio.

The new restoration has a green tint and the 35mm German print has more "original colors".

This same package is suppose to be released in the USA by Kino at some later date.

Do I have that infomation right?

If so shouldn't the project be to color correct the restored print with the colors of the German print and add the English audio?

Looks interesting

To add; if we are talking snowy western we should go with the original granddaddy and the one that inspired The Great Silence: Day of the Outlaw

...

The normal Version (also with German title card and credits) and the Grindhouse are on the same disc, so it also may be on the single disc release.
The limited 2 disc Mediabook only contains an additional DVD of the movie.

So the single disc version (or the copy online that I haven't found yet) has both transfers on it.

Yes. According to ofdb.de and Amazon.de the Grindhouse Version is on the regular single disc BD release, too. (€ 13 on Amazon)

I think this time we really have great luck to get 35mm scan for only few bucks.
Just think how much it can cost that we first buy the print, scan it, buying HDDs, and all hard work to looks like that.

So, I'm voting for syncing English audio on Grindhouse because it's unique rare 35mm scan direct from collector.

And waith for restored New 4K release and than color correct it if it would needed.

I have one question about Grindhouse running time which is 98:48 Min and normal version have 104:51 Min.

Is possible that print is PG-rated (removed or trimmed violence & nudity)
or they have only removed unimportant scenes?

I really hope it's R-rated.
I know a lot of German released stuff have Uncut tags.

Sorry, I can't tell, what's censored.
It still got its 18 rating in Germany, but it could be trimmed in violence and nudity, and additional "unimportant" scenes.
At schnittberichte.com (the original, German language branch of movie-censorship.com), there is no comparison. Sad
