Film logo preservation and talk thread

Yet more finding updates:

The anonymous source that has informed me of the 2001-2004 United International Pictures appearing on La Flaqueza del Bolchevique helped me with getting a Spain Itunes account and GC to rent the movie and verify things. Surely enough, the movie indeed starts with:

And a logo for some Spanish company I've never seen before:

The second wave of findings below is even more amazing!

Thanks to an extremely generous NZ user, he tried to help me get a rare 1989 movie called The Delinquents from the NZ Google Play store. Long story short, YT downloading didn't work and he came up with a high bitrate cap done on an Elgato through his Xbox. It was 59.94 fps while the movie was mastered in 25fps, but unfortunately the cap was plagued with frame rate issues every min when converted back to 25fps using a variety of converters and a friends AviSynth help.

OTOH, the first min was free of frame lag issues when converting back to 25fps, which allowed me to harvest excellent quality caps of:

So at least the work didn't go to complete waste. I now possess an optimal quality version of the legendary Village Roadshow/Warner combo that doesn't look like a choppy PS1 cutscene as seen on the only other sighting of it on on YT

Here's a rare logo for you. As far as I know, it was only ever attached to two films, a Leone film and a Bond film, both in 1967... (This was around the time UA was acquired by TransAmerica Corporation.)

This one was scanned directly from a 35mm IB Technicolor print:

And here it is after an hour or so stabilizing it and cleaning it up a bit:

Beautiful! Might we be allowed a good quality download of that?

US Prints and UK prints of The Living Daylights had different versions of the MGM/UA Logos attached. Here is the US Version:

That's very odd. There was only a month or so between the UK and US premieres, but maybe that was just long enough for UA to finish off their exciting new logo animation and get it spliced onto the prints.

It seems the plainer blue version was used on the eventual laserdisc (at 3:15):

I guess the original 'British' IP is what ended up in the MGM library.

The MGM/UA logo that fades out to the Zooming UA is probably what's on the OCN, which with differences in color timing and such spanned from the SE DVD, to the BD master with it's Lowery processing, all the way to the 4k Itunes/Amazon Video master.

The US version with the rare scope MGM/UA Communications/United Artists Woosh logo was mostly seen on US prints and the initial US VHS and Laserdiscs

Both of my Living Daylights laserdiscs (527780 and ML102530) have the US Version with the whoosh, as do the two VHS tapes I have. (CBS FOX from 1988 & MGM from 1993)

Not film logo related... but it is pretty interesting to me that the color of the blood on the TLD varies so much between the US and UK prints.

Back on topic...

So my good friend JC (who was the main supporter for helping me getting The Delinquents) found us another "full" VPN that allows us to use any regions Google Play on PC. Only thing is it only gives us 500MBs per session and no Apple TV or streaming box support sadly, but would be useful for capping logos and short stuff!

Anyway, we discovered another Aussie movie with an extremely rare logo in HD on Google Play AU. Bush Christmas 1983 gets us:

But not without absurd, hair pulling issues of course. The only fatal flaw of this finding was the whole movie was badly converted from pitch corrected 25fps, to 24fps with dupe frames!! Since we only had time to record the logos via the PCs HDMI out to the AGPTek capture device, the only way to salvage this find was to manually remove the dupes. Frustrating and time consuming process (even more so if we had to cap the whole movie), but the result was worth it!!
