So I've done some comparisons:
LD: DVD: 4k: LD: DVD: 4k: LD: DVD: 4k: What do people think? Worth a regrade?

I'd love a Running man project and kind of lean towards the DVD in these pics but I don't see a huge difference here. Are there more pictures to look at?

Unfortunately my source for the DVD was extremely slow and after two days I’d only got Vob 1 but I should be able to post more soon. In the helicopter shot the 4k is higher on the red, on the back of his seat for example. Worse shot is the last one, all that yellow on the rug that is hardly there at all on the blu/LD. LD I found on a Russian tracker and it’s too messy to use I think as a source, but it’s good to see its roughly in line with the DVD.

According to posters on bluray.com the 2.0 stereo tracks on the Capelight UHD and Olive's BD are downmixes from the 5.1 track.
The film was screened in 70mm but I'm not sure if any release's 5.1 mix replicates the OG six-channel mix. The Paramount UHD might, I don't know?

Paramount UHD only has Eng 5.1 and 2.0 for the foreign dubs.
Not sure about the Capelight UHD/BDs, but I'm pretty sure the Olive BD and others with 2.0 are the Dolby Stereo LRCS. The 7.1 mix on some releases is basically the six-track mag with a matrixed 6th channel combining info from the back channels.

Yeah, I was disappointed to hear that. I still haven't opened my Capelight disc. If it's indeed a downmix, I'm thinking of selling it and getting the Paramount release.

Same here, but I need to be absolutely convinced that the Capelight 2.0 is a downmix. Sometimes people make assumptions that turn out to be incorrect. Paramount's 5.1 track I've no idea about.

I'm not sure, I got the german UHD, and the gunshots in the beginning didn't have that hollow sound that is on the remix.

It's discussed in this thread... https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php...04&page=27 Some pertinent quotes: -"I own both the Paramount and Capelight UHD discs, as well as several other formats. What I believe PeterTHX is implying is correct. Capelight’s 2.0 is a downmix of the 5.1 track. It sounds identical. Original Dolby Surround track did not have as much bass. There are many differences, but one way to test is at the end. When Ben turns around and walks towards Amber. In the 5.1 as well as in the 2.0 downmix, his footsteps are barely audible. But in the original Dolby Surround mix, they are clear and distinct. Having said that, the 5.1 track on both of these releases is exceptional. Very faithful. There has not been anything added or subtracted (i.e. The Terminator)." -"Ive Compared both Discs Also, and the 7.1 on the Capalight while its ok, Doesn't Sound quite as Clear or Punchy as the Paramount 5.1, and yeah the Paramount 5.1 Sounds the same mix as the Capalight 2.0 but is more Dynamic Sounding, (Gunshots, Effects etc) Both Tracks are Close to being 5/5 for what they are." -"I would like to make a quick correction, Capelight features a downmix of the 5.1 track, it does not have the original Dolby Surround audio track." -"I just took a listen to the Olive BD and can verify that it is not the original track. It’s the same downmix as on the Capelight disc. It’s very possible that this is what was provided to these labels by the studio." |
