[Help] Running Man 35mm open matte

(2023-05-27, 07:09 PM)Stamper Wrote: MMm what? Why would you want a lower resolution? Makes no sense. The guys scans films in 5K, therefore 1080p is the minimum accepted for these. Lower resolution, you might as well watch the VHS or DVDs.

Because I'm a little weird Wink and have Predator 1987 NTSC Fullscreen... and collect only DVD.

Imagine Predator and Commando both in fullscreen in this quality (like Running scan) !!!! than even in DVD will be nice quality transfer.

There's a bunch of these "DVD onlys" over on the /r/dvdcollection forums too. Saw one the other day arguing that if the world goes to shit, DVD players will be much easier to find, lol.

I'm fine with collecting VHS or DVD when no other transfer exists of one particular film of course, but when it's on Blu, getting the DVD instead feels... 2003!

I don't see what the problem is here, if someone wants to collect only DVDs that's up to them, after all DVDs are still being produced. Huge numbers of people all over the world haven't upgraded to HD yet, never mind 4K.
It wouldn't be that hard to downconvert HD to SD and burn it to a DVD-R (or record to VHS for that matter), should one be so inclined

LOL @ record it to VHS...the visuals of a movie are a huge part of the film experience. It makes no sense to limit yourself to lower quality for no reason other than "my collection is DVD only" when better options exists (and they are often cheaper too). There are great reasons to collect DVDs, or almost any other form of physical media, but in 2023, 99% of the time, a DVD just degrades the film experience. Would you walk into an art gallery and be OK purchasing a lower quality photocopy of a piece of artwork you love? Would you be ok reading a book where some of the words were hard to read? How about a song that is recording at a much lower quality? I just don't get it.

People do routinely buy reproductions of art, be it posters, prints or coffee table books (we can't all own a Van Goch). And the majority of music 'consumption' these days is via streaming platforms or lossy mp3.
I'm not saying that DVD only is for me personally (although I do still watch LDs and VHS) but if that's how people want and choose to watch films that's up to them.

sure but i said photocopy (as in a copier/xerox). reproductions of art are much more like the blu-rays in my analogy (high quality copies). https://i.imgflip.com/7nejg4.jpg

and the majority of music consumption these days is via streaming/mp3s because it's very close in audio quality to the source (unlike DVDs).

Ah so streaming quality audio is good enough for most people? Considering DVDs still outsell blus they must be good enough for most people as well.

@Nfsfan83, the easiest thing to do would be to donate to the scanning project, download the HD file then convert it yourself to DVD, if you're serious about having it on DVD. Alternatively there is already an open matte DVD rip which was taken from a film print (this is the original subject of this thread lol) which you may be able to track down online

Running Man FSDVD vs FSDVD.Recolor vs WSDVD (but still problem is scene when Ben talk to Amber in bed (weird color)
