Well I'm finding out with the fades and missing frames, I may not be able to fix the whole thing. I was able to dup previous or following frames to fix 2 shots but there are still two spots where there is missing 25 to 30 frames. The main problem is Telemundo broadcast has fades in different places (who fades out of action?). So in this test there are 3 shots I haven't fixed, one in the climbing sequence, on in the garage fight and one of the approaching storm (that one I doubt I will ever be able to fix).

Other then that the Telemundo compression sometimes sticks out, patched into the FXX broadcast.

Jerry I'm upload a video demo right now.

Here is a test run of the first 18 mins. Warning its 1.36 GB:

(Link Removed)

I did 18 mins so there would be a few 16:9 scenes. Like I said its just a test but it you see an error please let me know. Already found one at the bell tower where the masking failed.

I will download this and look at it within the next couple of hours to give you some feedbackWink

On side-note: Trust me, I understand how matching two different sources to each other can be a hassle and it won't always come out right. However, in cases like this, the "real" question is: Will it look better "semi-patched" or "as-is?"

Thanks jerry. No rush. Doombot looked at an earlier version and found some errors I have since fixed. Realistically I should of tried to de block and re grain both videos first but I just wanted to see if it worked first and get some opinions to see if I should go on

For sure, when I can get to it tonight, depends a lot on when I can get my daughters to bed, LOL Tongue

I have a question concerning the de-blocking: I understand the need for this in certain instances, but doesn't this "compromise" some of the detail as well, by blurring the "corners" of those blocks to smooth it all out? I have always been skeptical of using any de-blocking plugins for this very reason and I'm wondering is it just that the sources I was working with were too damaged or did I use settings that were too "extreme..."

I noticed that the FXX and the telemundo have different color-grading... Is this something you are working on too? (keep in mind I haven't seen the sample yet, but downloading now)

Oh I understand the getting the daughter to bed part. All too well. Mine hates sleeping.

I guess de blocking could compromise detail but at the level the Telemundo is at there is little detail to comprise. I did start a thread for it and the test result looked good. For this test I just kept is as is. I just ivtc'd the transport stream but no de blocking

And I did a bit a color correction so it matched the fxx broadcast better. Luckily it wasn't that far off

@ PDB - I finally got a chance to look at your sample. For the most part, it's pretty decent but there are a few instances where the color is off, there is pixelation that's obviously only in the "patch" part and there are a few instances where it seems a little off...

The following, is a detailed list of everything I noticed (keep in mind that this is from a "perfectionist" stand point and ONLY for feedback, NOT a criticism of your work):

00:54 - right as the word "Budapest" displays on-screen, there is a blue-ish smudge where the logo was

00:57 - little can be done here, but the patched part seems more blurry and a tad bit more blue-ish than rest of screen

00:58 - patch looks slightly un-aligned/off-center

01:02 - there is a frame doubled in the patch (which means there is one missing there)

01:05 - at shot change, the first two frames in the patch are the same frame and badly pixelated

01:15 - at shot change, the first frame looks like crap and suggest doubling the second frame here since there's no movement

01:17-01:18 - the outlines of the logo can still be seen in the dark color of the jacket

01:18 - at shot change, again, first frame has pixelation and the second frame should be duplicated due to no movement

01:21 - at shot change, the patch is pixelated and has the blue from before shot change

01:24 - at shot change, there is pixelation(?) or something

01:51 - at shot change, first two frames are pixelated and off-color

09:50 - the frame where the smoke reaches the "patch" area, the patch looks too orange, just as the flame consumes the word "bad" from bad robot--- and then again, one frame, when "bad ro" is in flame
---next few frames here are discolored

10:04 - right as flashlight points directly at center of screen, the patch is pixelated rather badly for two frames

10:07-10:10 - at shot change, first frame is heavily discolored and there are a few more but not as bad

10:13 - there are a couple of frames discolored, should be grey but are orange/brown

10:20-10:21 - some of the frames here are obviously discolored and don't match

10:23 - the frame that gets really bright, as the names come towards you, the patch is blue and doesn't match surroundings, whereas the very next frame is black/green-ish instead of blue-ish

10:27 - at shot change, first frame is discolored and pixelated

10:35 - first frame, where we can see the co-producers name by the building, looks like is a double of the next frame after that and should be repositioned if the unique frame is missing

10:43 - the frame when the burning string is in the patch, frame is too orange

10:43 - at shot change, the frame before and after are pixelated and badly discolored, so are the next 3-4 frames after that

10:44 - at shot change where the flame is on top of woman in red dress, the first frame of patch is pixelated and there are a couple more shortly after

10:45 - the frame where name of costume designer starts appearing, the patch is discolored and pixelated and so are the next three frames and a couple moments later

10:47 - starting with frame where tire of sports car is in the patch, there is a pixelation issue that lasts a few frames, including one frame that completely turns black in the patch

10:55 - the frame where the flame is dead-center and so is the string, the patch is too black, while everything around is kind of blue-ish

10:59 - at shot change, as we see the white fluorescent lights, the first frame is pixelated and badly discolored

11:09 - at shot change, the first frame where everything is blue, the patch is too dark and discolored

11:12 - at shot change, first frame is slightly pixelated and discolored, and 2-3 frames later, there is obvious discoloration

11:14-11:16 - many of the frames with the sand are discolored in patch

11:18 - at shot change, where most background becomes blue, the first 2-3 frames show pixelation and are discolored

11:29 - the frame where the flame approaches the charge and everything gets bright orange, the patch is too dark and very discolored

13:20 - at shot change, the first couple of frames in the patch are too blue

13:21 - something is off as the patch turns too white and too soon, three frames need to be fixed here - then there's a good frame and a bad one again

13:24 - at shot change, first frame in patch is black, so something is off there, then the two next frames are pixelated and discolored

13:27 - at shot change, the first two frames are pixelated, with the first one discolored as well

13:28 - shortly after the above, there is a doubling of a frame in the patch that is obvious-this one might be fixable by moving the frame around for the patch---- this happens three times (!)

13:35 - at shot change, the first frame in the patch is from before the shot change

13:41 - at shot change, the first two frames are pixelated and can probably be duplicated from the next ones due to no motion there

13:43 - at shot change, again, slight pixelation

13:44 - at shot change, the first frame of the patch is actually from before shot change

13:46 - at shot change, the first frame of the patch is super blue and pixelated

13:49 - at shot change, the first frame of the patch is actually from before the shot change

13:49-50 - the frames in the patch are off... the 2 before and the 1 after shot change

13:51 - at shot change, first frame in patch is too blue and pixelated

13:52 - at shot change, first frame of patch is messed up (looks like blending and pixelation)

13:58 - at shot change, first frame of patch is slightly pixelated and discolored blue

14:01 - at shot change, first frame of patch is black and actually frame from before shot change

14:07 - at shot change, first frame is too orange and pixelated

14:10 - as camera pans to right, there's a frame in the patch that is dark blue instead of red

14:10 - similar to the last one, but few frames later

14:15 - at shot change, first frame in the patch is actually the last frame from before shot change and it's obvious AND then the next two frames after are the same frame, where the first one works but second will have to be repositioned

14:19 - the frame where the guys grey jacket is also in the patch, the patch is miscolored slightly (too green/blue-ish)

14:24 - at shot change, the first frame of patch is actually the last frame from before shot change and is very obvious

14:31 - at shot change, the first frame is massively discolored and slightly pixelated and there are a few others discolored during this shot

14:33 - at shot change, the first frame of patch is way too blue and slightly pixelated

14:35 - in the patch there is a doubled frame

14:37 - at shot change, first frame of patch is slightly pixelated and discolored

14:38 - when we see the head going through the area where patch is, the patch is discolored for two frames and so is the first frame after shot change

15:16 - some of the frames where we see the blue wall in the patch, the patch needs a color correction

15:24 - at shot change, the first two frames are identical, very pixelated and discolored and then the next two frames after that are also identical.

15:28 - at shot change, the first frame of patch is a garbage frame and needs to be replaced

15:30 - at shot change, first two frames in patch are pixelated and first one is discolored too... and then the third frame is a duplicate of the second frame... and then a few frames later, there is another instance of doubled frames and a few frames it happens a third time

15:33 - just as the ladies foot steps in between train tracks, there is a doubled frame in the patch that needs to be re-centered for the patch and then it happens again a few frames later and a third time a few frames after that...and a fourth time few frames later... damn, a fifth time couple of frames later...sh*t, a six time a couple of frames after that

15:35 - at shot change... first frame before is a double of frame before that and first frame after is pixelated and discolored

15:38 - at shot change, first frame of the patch is actually last frame from before shot change... then the next frame after that is pixelated

15:40 - at shot change, first frame of the patch is heavily pixelated

15:44 - at shot change, first frame of the patch is black because it's the last frame from before shot change and a few frames later there is a doubled frame which is obvious because everything moves but not in the patch

15:46 - at shot change, first frame of the patch is actually last frame before shot change

15:52 - at shot change, first two frames of patch are the same frame and needs to be fixed and then it seems like there are two more doubles back to back

15:54 - right after the lady is off-screen, it seems like there is still some issue with frame doubling (or positioning of frame) in the patch

16:14 - at shot change, first frame in patch is pixelated

16:31 - right after the shot change, the second frame is a duplicate of the first... and the fourth frame is a duplicate of the third

Hope this helpsWink
