Could do a few different file types for compatibility and convenience tho. Sorry for replying so late. Although I will be making a Blu-Ray for myself (and I wouldn't mind a menu at all), I think guys around here prefer the MKV as final format. What do you use to make menus and what's your workflow?

I would just want the file to be as lossless as possible and not to have to be re-encoded again for a menu. So making the file something like H.264 or whatever would be good. I have had some MKV files work without re-encoding with the menus tho. I can make the menu after you finish the editing and then share that with you if you would like. I plan on making a cool menu with music and all that.
Inside the MKV you'll find the h264 and audio tracks that you can demux separately, does TMPGEnc Authoring Works 6 allow authoring without reencode if the file is already in the correct format?

Yes it uses smart rendering where it only encodes the menu as long as the video file is the correct type. That's why I use it. Works great!

Just a quick update to say that I have no update, shortly after our exchange here I was asked by a film archive to prepare a conference for next month, I'll be talking about Italian dubbing and film preservation, then the projection of a 35mm film from my private collection will follow so I'll be busy preparing and organizing all that in the little free time outside my 8 hour monday-to-friday job. I'll have to postpone this for now but I'll get back to it once the event is over.

Awesome! No worries, real life can be a hassle I am still slowly working through the sync for ROTLD2. If I manage to finish it before you I will pick up work on syncing the LD track for ROTLD.

Thanks for the update. Good luck with the conference!
Thanks, I'm excited that they let me project a 35mm film (it was my idea, they originally wanted to play a Blu-Ray, tsk!), it's a rarity to witness something like that in Italy.
@bronan keep me up to date with that, and thanks!
