So I've been working on the ROTLD2 PCM sync for the past few weeks on and off. I was noticing some problems as I went, namely noise and a chopped off low end and boosted high range that make the track feel very thin and weak. I started thinking it was going to turn into a full-on restoration and added EQs and such to get it sounding a little better. Then I thought maybe I should check the analog track on the disc and see if its the same. So I ripped it today, and to my surprise, it sounds MUCH better. The low end is present, its less noisy, and the highs sound nice and clear without being overdone like the digital. So apparently the Japanese edition at least got a botched digital track. I'm interested to get my hands on the US release now to compare.. Anyhow, the downside to all this is that I have to start from scratch with the sync if I switch to the analog track. And I don't think its worth syncing the 2nd side of the digital track so I'm stalled out on it.
So anyway, since I'm kinda burned out on ROTLD2 at the moment so I'm going to switch to syncing the ROTLD LD PCM to the Shout video. I did some quick A and B testing of a few different scenes and overall I think it sounds much better, the Second Sight version seems to be suffering from some noise reduction that muffled the high end. Glad to hear. I've never even seen ROTLD2 but would love the original ROTLD audio. Thanks for taking it on.

Some good news for a change of pace! I started on the ROTLD sync today and so far its coming together very quickly. There's very little drift and just a handful of missing frames so far, so I was able to knock out the first half today. I'll be a little busy the next few days, but I don't think it will take much longer.

No problem! I managed to finish another 15 minutes this morning, so the first hour is done now. It shouldn't take much longer to finish the last 30 mins.

Likewise, and it sounds great. There's no extra noise reduction so the dialogue is surprisingly clear compared to the other releases. On the downside you get some hiss, but just like grain it's needed for the detail

On the VHS, after the end credits (and after the Orion logo), this appears:
