[Proposal] Interstellar - BluRay "inspired by" 70mm
#11
Not that I dislike the BD.... But these 70mm regrades look so much nicer to me than the BD.

Thanks guys!

What do you think about the 100% vs 50% regrade? I still think 100% is perfect for the water planet, but the 50% works well for the whole movie.

Exactly my thinking. Big Grin

Here's what I get out of a Ripbot conversion of the UHD:

Blu-ray / Ripbot conversion

Not as grey as the Blu-ray but greener and not as blue as the 70mm pic.

Surely better than BD, IMHO!

P.S. just fixed the screenshot comparison link in the first post, that was pointed to empty page.

I posted a more extensive comparison of the full movie in the last couple of pages of the "UHD to BD" thread, if you want to see more.

Yes, I saw them - https://fanrestore.com/thread-2171-post-...l#pid47797

If I have to choose, I'd go with the UHD (or converted UHD2BD); even if most of the times it's almost the same of my "inspired by 70mm" regrade, like this:

(BD - "inspired by 70mm" - UHD)

it has too much green sometimes - like the house in comparison #6 - even if I must admit mine has greener sky, wood should not be so green IMHO Wink

(BD - "inspired by 70mm" - UHD)

without mentioning the fact UHD is "zoomed in" (losing image on every sides) - dunno if it's the same for the widescreen shots, though!

The 35mm shots are not zoomed in apparently, they're just barely framed differently sometimes, showing a few more pixels on one side and less on the other, horizontally and vertically, but yeah, the IMAX shots are zoomed in and reframed, just like on The Dark Knight and Rises.

It's the old story... when DVD came, LD was considered "dead" since the first moment, even if the first DVDs were dreadfully compressed... then BD came, and "let's kiss DVD goodbye"... but sometimes DVD has something still to tell... "history repeating"! Big Grin
