Is it a fan restoration using the BD in an expanded rec2020 color space?

Looks like it. Apparently it follows the u-matic who looks akin to the pics in the original picture book.

That's right. He took the old 2010 Blu-ray and tried to upscale/upsample it to 10-bit HDR....
It doesn't work that way though. Save your bandwidth.

Agree. If it would so (relatively) simple, why studio would bother to rescan and/or regrade their movies? Just slap a nice SDR2HDR chip in every BD player, and that's all!

It can be done, but result will never be the same as properly mastered 10bit AND HDR... it's like if we upscale an SD source to HD - it may be a bit better than hardware real time upscale, but it will never be the same of proper HD material... at the contrary, if we downscale an HD source to SD, usually it's better than original SD source, due to a lot of reasons - as it seems that HDR2SDR, when properly done, is usually (a bit? much?) better than SDR (Matrix UHD HDR2SDR Vs Matrix BD in the same package).

Thanks! Given the fact it's red faded, it seems that the Umatic has the closest color grading... waiting for your comparison and opinion!

Just discovered that in the PAL LD "Waldo" is (barely) visible, along with a writing on top left ("D-7") that should be printed on the window, I guess...
