So sounds like the general consensus is to go the variable aspect ratio route.
I will point out that Beber’s misgivings in the form of the later transformer movies is what I wanted to avoid. Never saw the last one but the forth(?) one was nauseating with its constant aspect ratio changes.
Going through the movie so far and having done the first half and hour and the last half an hour, there is only one sequence so far that swaps constantly around from 1.77 to 2.39 within a scene.
So what I’m going to try is to smooth over such transitions. Not use the shots with only a sliver of new info. Keep it 1.77 even if cut if the that makes the most sense in the scene. Keep it presentable in other words.
