Random, but I ended up stumbling onto the fact that there's a page on the Timeline of Historical Film Colors for Apocalypse Now, and although I do not think it's a particularly great way of seeing how the movie looked on a print (especially given the light source in those photos look too dark), I did notice a few frames that look too different to pin it on the camera or light only (maybe photochemical inconsistency?).

Does anyone have the Final Cut blu-ray to pull a frame grab of this shot out of curiosity? Curious to hear if maybe that remaster reflects the greenish tone more than the older BD.

The french plantation scene is a bit of a paradox. I think it's essentially a first ending for the film. It's a final destination before the final destination. It repeats some of the great stuff about the last act (like people appearing out of the smoke, have meeting with these people etc.). I agree it adds themes, but it should be this ending or the other. And of course the other makes more sense.

I find it weird that Coppola left it in the half baked new cut (which I didn't bother to watch complete). He should have kept it for the redux, as it always was there, and just removed it completely from the final cut. Either the Redux of the FC without the plantation would make one hell of an extended cut.

Did someone fan edited the redux removing the plantation?

so i finally got to finishing the laserdisc final cut hybrid. don't plan on watching it soon so if anyone wants to test it send me a pm.
wouldn't find doing blade runner as well if anyone has the DC LD.
I downmixed the 7.1 dts ma to dolby surround flac 2.0 for the final cut audio

So I got my hands on the 6-disc UHD boxset earlier today and remembered this post, so I decided to quickly hop to that one shot as well as another I found at the same time.

Does anyone happen to know what "Apocalypse Now 1979 2K DCP REMUX JP2K FLAC 5.1-WSPR" is?

Is this really a DCP rip? It's pre-Final Cut restoration, and that's actually why I'm interested if it's a better source than the Blu-Ray. A friend of mine (who's seen countless 35mm screenings of APOCALYPSE NOW) says the older BD master is more representative than the new one.

To me, the biggest issue with the older BD is the lack of grain, but the appearance of the flesh tones and the overall contrast of the image look better to me than the new one (which seems more digitally worked to my eyes).

Everything I've seen points to it indeed being a real DCP. I don't know how or where it came from. Would be nice to know if someone found a good way to decrypt/rip DCPs. I was never able to confirm if the audio is from a DCP or if it comes from another source.

Also does anyone have a link to it? I've been trying to get ahold of it for awhile now with no success.

I have it not from BT but from another source. Outside of the curiosity of having a DCP, and the one I have is still formatted as a DCP, its not worth it.

Its very close to the old BD with the EE and DNR and the 2K-ness doesn't seemingly offer any meaningful resolution/picture upgrade over the BD.

Basically if you have the old BD, video-wise you have the DCP.
