Second part up to 35m encoded. Usual problems due to repeated/missing frames in the HDTV. Quite easy task to fix them.
Third part encoding right now, should be ready in about six hours. I'll report notes later. Over.

BTW Sporv, did you ever do that Abyss PanUp bleed?

I mean preserv of the original LD/DVD master with best rendering through PanUp. As the Pal and NTSC seemed to blend well.

Did not, as the WEB and HDTV are way better... possibly a WEB + HDTV could be viable.

Some volunteer needed to test my latest test clip!!!

As I had too many errors with the UAR - some not easily recoverable, others recoverable only replacing HDTV with DVD - I decided to give the UHD another chance; now, I think the result is pretty good, much much better than first attempt; colors are spot-on, and when you noticed a slight "pulsating" luma in few shots, it's baked in the source. I prefer this version much more - UHD, better details, bigger frame size - and yes, there are not blown-out whites (to me a good thing, but maybe some purist disagrees) but the theatrical "spirit" is there nevertheless; could not say how close to the DVD color grading it is, but I guess really close - and surely better than BD/UHD! (note: I added a grain plate to hide some eventual unevenness due to regrading/conversion to SDR/compression in the source)

you can watch it online, to get an idea of the color grading, yet I ask you to download it, if you can (3.62GB!) because:
- grain should be preserved
- bitrate is way higher than browser preview
- the encode used should be tested as well - is it nice? does it have problems? is the grain preserved well?

So, what I'd like to know if you like colors overall, and what do you think about the encoding - I know that 80mbps is overkill, but if some problems could be noted here, it shurely would be noted at half that bitrate.

Last note: there is a missing frame between 5857 and 5858 in the clip (6732 and 6733 in the DVD) that is present in all sources; because it's very noticeable (to me, at least), with a simple interpolation we can get a rough version, while someone talented with photo retouch could easily copy & paste parts from previous and next frame to get a final nearly perfect version: anyone? (of course, the first frame of the shot will be cut so to let the audio tracks in sync)

Well, in a way you are completely right, but... as we are fixing color, I guess that fixing a single missing frame could be forgivable, in the grand scheme of things!

So, now waiting for some opinions - as it will take A LOT to encode the whole film, I want to be sure - just for the record, I spent (well, my PC spent) most of the last three days just encoding test clips over test clips...

Ive had a look at the sample and I must be honest and say it just looks wrong to me.
The skin tones alone look way to yellow!

Ive not seen the HDTV that your using to correct this but does it really look like this?
I don't want to offend in anyway because I know how much time and work go into these projects but it just all looked very ugly to me!

CSchmidlapp, thanks for your opinion! No offense, at the contrary, you spotted an error I wasn't aware of - even if I agreed the skin seemed too yellow, when I compared with DVD I thought "well, it IS yellow on DVD, so..."; but I was wrong!!! I inverted the values of the color matrix when converted DVD from 601 to 709, and the error affected all the subsequent clips!

Now, I corrected the error, and skin color is right - I hope!
