To be fair that remastered disc was the closest to the 70mm look I saw, but as you can see off screen it's way to rich in colour, but the detail is amazing.

Ok this project is done.
To recap: I took the Japanese Mpeg-2 HDTV broadcast of the Special Edition (SE) cut and IVTC'd it back to 1080p/23.976fps. The master appears to be the same master used for the '99 DVD only in HD and without the additional dirt and spot clean-up the DVD had. I then removed the few instances of Japanese text by matting out the info using other HDTV broadcasts and one shot from the '99 DVD. The encode has areas where the the highlights are completely blown out in turn destroying several shots. Those shots were also replaced using other HDTV broadcasts (pre-BD remaster). In addition several shots with the most glaring bad compression blocking were replaced. For the rest of the encode a general deblocking filter was run. For color, I had thought to either leave it alone or grade this project to 35mm examples I have. I decided to go with the master's original colors with a slight reduction in red in the highs and mids. I also decided to leave the 35mm regrade to the another time. The SE was then synced to the BD. For that a few frames had to be duplicated or interpolated as they are missing from every other master (HDTV and DVDs) proceeding the BD. The final mkv has the SE LD’s PCM track synced to it in addition to the BD’s DTS MA 5.1. That file was then cut down to the CBS (TV) cut and the Theatrical cut (TC) using parts from another HDTV broadcast. The TC file was synced to the TC BD. Again there were a few duplicate frames to get perfect sync with the BD. The TV cut has a mix of the THX and SE LD’s PCM tracks for its primary audio source. I started working on syncing the actual broadcast track from the VHS recording but the large gaps around the cut profanity made it a waste of time. The TC cut has the THX LD’s PCM track (thanks Jonno) and AC3 5.1 (thanks Zoidberg) synced to it with the BD’s 4.1 and 5.1. I also discovered I capped the P&S LD track years ago before that disc went belly up. So that was synced up also with a 8db boost to get it in the ballpark of the other tracks. Since this has to be one of the grainiest 35mm pro scans I’ve ever seen, I went with a significant bitrate of 30 to preserve that grain. That makes the file sizes large so fair warning. Apparently mega is being mega and one file is missing from the SE so hold off on that till I can re-up the files. The other two projects are fine.
