The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (Italian Cut Reconstruction in English)
#11
I don't understand the line in question either.  To me, it sounds like: e poi altri laggiù più poche.  And then-->now a few more over there?

EDIT:  Pone finito means either Finish off! or perhaps, more informally, Wrap it up.

Let's solve this riddle then.

"Non è finita!"

Literally "it's not over yet" (referring to the song). He's pushing the kid to keep playing. You should adapt it as "you ain't done yet!"

The other one:

"E voi altri laggiù, più voce!"

Literally: "and you (plural) over there, more voice". What you should really say in English:

"and you over there, louder!"

I preserve movies as they first appeared in Italy.

^ Aaaah, that makes more sense! I misheard some of the consonants. Labials, in particular, often cause me problems in Romance languages. Mystery solved! Big Grin

That's great! By the way, I'm not going to fandub the entire Italian cast. Just that line since it wasn't dubbed in 1967. Even then, I'll work on how possible it will be for me to get a matching voice. If any members here have vocal experience and would like to help, feel free to let me know. Smile

Does the soldier have other lines in the rest of the movie? I don't recall

I'm pretty sure that soldier only appears in that scene, with a total of two lines in the English version (and all home video versions), and three lines in the original Italian cut.

"More feeling/Più forte" ... "Play that fiddle you/Non è finita" ... "E voi altri laggiù, più voce"

If I can successfully dub that missing line in English, I think that's the only dialogue in the film that isn't included in the MGM extended cut. Then we would have the complete English film, with the only roadblock being the actual audio sync in the torture scene.

I've been editing the torture scene and so far, I haven't had too much trouble with it. I'm editing to swap between the Italian audio and English audio depending on sync for frame differences. I'm think I'm going to finish a test edit without doing anything with the Italian line, and hopefully get a preview of the scene up tomorrow.

A pal had the same problem on Once Upon A Time in the West, as you know, one scene in the Sergio Leone print is differently shot when Bronson goes into Claudia Cardinale room and she's having a bath.

My pal was syncing the whole french dub to Leone print, but that line was missing. He didn't want to fandub, so he went on a quest, and watched all the spaghetti films of the same year dubbed in french by the same guy who dubbed Bronson in OUATITW.

Eventually he found a line that fit perfectly, and just swapped the italian line with the french line.

Maybe you should track who did the voice dub on that guy, and check other westerns dubs for a similar line.

That actually sounds like a great idea. I don't know how easy it will be to find a suitable line, but it might be worth a shot. I'll look into it.

EDIT: I've been looking at cast lists and nobody seems to have the dub cast documented beyond a few supporting characters, which doesn't include this guy. It seems he was physically played by Franco Tocci, credited as Soldato Unione con Sigaro.
