[request] Jurassic Park - 2DBD to 3DBD colours
It's great to see that the original Canal+ has been found. Although the WOWOW still seems to be the highest quality source. If you look at the car's window frame on the right of the image above, there are some weird artifacts in the Canal+ that seem to be caused by the rain.

Personally (and only personally) I would just like to see the highest quality source de-logo'd and colour corrected with no other digital processing or sharpening. As for the colours; poita mentioned that he has a 35mm print of JP scanned so I guess we can wait for some news on that for a potentially definitive colour reference.

What about Halo the xbox game? Tongue
Go heavy on that sharpening tool and we could be in Halo 5: Guardians pre-release territory Big Grin

Poita's print could not only be used for potentially colour reference but also the missing surrounding aspect ratio information (all 4 sides) which have been zoomed in even on the Wowow if they can be matched up together.

Can I say for sure we should wait a bit, to know something more about the 35mm print?
Meanwhile, all the digital version will reside on my HDD, ready to be used in addition (or alternative) to the film!

I can't see any harm in waiting for the print to come along, maybe your EFNY project could be bumped up to take its place Wink while you are waiting, my most anticipated release of yours.

Right now, I'm encoding an intermediary lossless copy of Waterworld, because it was almost finished - I have only to build the BD menus for it... hope to find out a way to let the final BD-R works on many hardware players this time!

EFNY: with the latest commercial release, is still there a need for a newer [spoRv] version?

That's awesome that you finally got the original Canal+ version.

Very nice work on the comparisons, as always, you make stuff look better. I agree with others that you shouldn't go overboard with the sharpeningWink

Found that it's possible to *fix* somehow Wink the HDTV color grading using the film as reference...

Top: HDTV - Mid: film - Bottom: HDTV *fixed*

Opinions?

The fixed shots remind of the 2DBD colours with the green foliage looking a bit too bright and cartoonish. I think there should be more brown, closer to the 3DBD. Although the 35mm has shown the 3DBD colours to be wrong in many scenes, it does seem to have a golden-brown cast that is particularly noticeable in scenes with a lot of plants (i.e. most scenes in JP Big Grin).

the regrading does look a lot better than before, but I think Turisu is right that it makes the greens in the foliage look cartoonish or maybe even like a video game. On that note, Turisu, do you have a better solution? (Not trying to be a smart-a**, I am posing this as a legitimate question)

The HDTV seems to have a strong magenta cast to it. My tentative theory is that the overall brownish colouring of the original print has been shifted to magenta during the transfer. So I don't think this colour cast should be removed, just maybe shifted 'back' to more of a golden brown. I suspect that will be a lot closer to the print but even if not, I'd still like to see how it would look.
