syncing laserdisc audio to blu-ray?
#1
What programs do you guys use to sync laserdisc PCM audio to blu-ray video? Do you just slap the LD audio and BD video in a video editing program and then sync from there?

I plan on getting an LD player in the near future so I can try this process myself, as there are several blu-rays that I'd like to watch with LD audio.

I always capture laserdisc audio AND video - the latter will be useful for sync purposes; it's easier to put in sync two video, and eventually adjust audio, instead taking an audio track with no video reference and try to put it in sync... IMHO!

You're right. It would make it easier. Smile I'm guessing any cheap composite capture device would suffice for the video?

Yes, definitely!

another (possibly stupid) question...my recording interface (aphex in2 USB) is 24 bit only. If I'm not mistaken, laserdisc pcm is 16 bit. Does that mean I cannot do a bit perfect capture with this device?

Probably even if it's 24bit, it *should* capture at 16bit, too... if not, you can't capture bit-perfect...

i suppose I could test by capturing a dts laserdisc track and seeing if it would play back properly?

Yes, that's a good way, but a bit "elaborate"... meanwhile, take a look at this thread; the RightMark Audio Analyzer can help you to find out if you have a bit-perfect capture card IIRC - to tell the truth, it was some time ago, but I'm pretty sure it can... if not, it's always a free, precious tool to understand better your sound card qualities.

Does tsmuxer actually analyse and align audio and video sources at all? Did I just get lucky with the one I tried and it worked great?

Also to answer the question crom asked what are you using to sync audio and video together? Or like you said video with video and audio. Final Cut? Premiere? Something else?

Nope, tsmuxer does only muxing... and yep, you are just lucky! Big Grin

I use Audacity for audio; usually, I take an audio track included with the best video, and use it to put the laserdisc track in sync, cutting or adding blank audio parts where needed.
