Re: the audio -- Using the Freeform as a reference might be a poor choice for that since I remember some of their music edits were very obvious and abrupt (I guess they didn't have access to the splits/full music recordings). I think some of the movies' home vid releases had music already mixed into the outtakes, and on some others they didn't. So that's another thing to think about.
I know a thing or two about the Harry Potter music scores and how they were edited in the films, so if you want some help with integrating them smoothly you can PM me if you'd like.

This looks great! Are you doing this to all the movies at one time or releasing them individually?

Thank you! I will be releasing them as they are complete individually Smile

I've been quite busy with other stuff over the past 6 months sadly, so I couldn't get much done, but just want to reassure everyone that I do still want to get this done and hopefully will be back on actively working on it soon.

I am really looking forward to this.
But what will the audio be for these Ultimate Definitive Versions? DTS-HD? DTS:X? Dolby?
I hope you have DTS-HD MA 5.1 (6.1 for the first two films) as well as DTS:X for the Theatrical Cuts while the Extended Cuts would have DTS-HD MA 5.1.

Also, what version of Year 1 will be here? The US cut (Sorcerer's) or the UK cut (Philosopher's)? I hope you do both versions since I see The Philosopher's Stone as the canon name and I think The Sorcerer's Stone was Americans thinking that American kids are too stupid to know what a philosopher's stone is.

Thankfully, a fullscreen UK DVD with the Philosopher's Cut does exist. It is out-of-print but it can be bought used for dirt-cheap (less than a full UK Pound) here:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Harry-Potter-an...Code=xm2&m=

I am not sure if there are open matte 16:9 copies of the Philosopher's Cut, though.
Apparently, some scenes where the Stone is mentioned are identical between the US and UK cut and are just dubbed differently but others have different takes and I am not sure if there are open matte 16:9 copies of the UK Philosopher's Cut anywhere.

P.S: What is the aspect ratio for your project? Will it have a constant aspect ratio or will it constantly fluctuate. I am okay with a constantly changing aspect ratio as long as the full image is preserved. Plus, the 1.60:1 presentation (at least, judging from the screenshots) gives it a somewhat nostalgic and old-timey but also epic and cinematic feel that fits perfectly with Harry Potter.

It'll be the "Sorcerer's Stone" because that's what the sources available to do this are in terms of picture, if you check the spreadsheet you can see why (OM AMZN WEB is only US, the OM NTSC dvds I have which are very rare and are better quality than PAL and also the 4K version). Getting a hold of everything in PAL and doing it all twice just for something like that is not up my sleeve. Unfortunately the project is already ambitious enough as it is. Smile

As for the audio. for the theatricals the audios will be whatever best you can find on the 4K BDs.
For the extended I can't tell you exactly yet because I'm still far from doing that final step, and would rather cross that bridge when I get to it.
Of course it's going to be troublesome to mux in the stereo audio for the extended scenes with the 5.1/7.1 audiotracks of the theatricals. But I'll do my best to at least not sacrifice anything or any channels/audio data. It also depends on what Davinci allows me to work with. Since I'll be using that to edit in the deleted scenes.
It's possible the first 2 movies will be 5.1 due to the fact that the extended copies are on BD so I'm definitely going to use those to begin with.

I think the Extended Edition audio in the ABC Family/Freeform broadcasts are in Dolby Digital 5.1.
For me, the Extended can have ABC Family or Blu-ray audio 5.1 while the Theatrical audio would have the DTS:X from the 4K UHD as well as the original theatrical audio mixes in DTS-HD MA 6.1 (for the first two films) and 5.1 (for the rest). I think SyFy also broadcasts in 5.1.

5.1 is very common in US HDTV airings now. In fact, the very first Dolby Digital TV series ever were remasters of Friends, Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion, which are releases that are nearly 20 years old and still sound really good today (though Cowboy Bebop has some Lucas-style alterations and Friends doesn't benefit that much from 5.1, Evangelion has some extra alterations for the ADV English dub in 5.1, most noticeably in Episode 26, which have been undone for the Netflix dub which is closer to the original Japanese).

I also want similar Ultimate Definitive Edition open mattes to crop up from other uses for The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (4K UHD + Amazon Prime Open Matte + Fullscreen DVDs, both Theatrical and Extended) and the Dragon Ball movies (cropped to 16:9 or 1.85:1 for their Japanese theatrical and home video releases while the international releases are open matte until the Blu-rays, a colour-corrected AI upscale of the older US DVDs with the Japanese Blu-ray overlaid on top of it, the full aspect ratio would probably be around 1.37:1).
If I had more knowledge on this field and I had better hardware/software, I would definitely do it with the older Dragon Ball movies.

Update: After a hellroad of hassles I'm not even going to get into that took me several weeks to figure out I'm finally back on the right track.
Here's a few samples/comparisons versus the 4K BD.
please note that Imgsli adds some weird rippling on big images for some reason.

Things are going very well now and I'd like to think it'll be smooth sailing from here. I am hoping to be able to release the first movie before christmas.

Edit: I am mostly positive I will be able to render out HDR versions as well. Not making any promises but so far the tests on a few scenes I did with the HDR grading worked out.
