Hello, for v2 would you consider to crop the sides?

If sides are cropped then some could zoom on tv to fill up the entire screen.

Maybe you can regrade the MoS and new remaster of BvS with the same settings, looks really nice.

here's an example between SDR and HDR of MoS https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/9611

HDR lacks some details in dark areas.

Thank you.

No worries, they are cropped in both V1 and in the upcoming. Wink I wouldn't waste space like that.

I'll probably share a set of LUTs at some point that do the same thing I did, but I do think I might do the new BvS master once I have it. Not sure if I'll do MoS, it's not currently planned at least.

If you want I'll do some preview screenshots of MoS but I'll need non-tonemapped HDR screenshots as the basis. Also ideally not on Screenshot Comparison since it's difficult to save the file there (since it disappears when you hover).

Okay I'm gonna be honest, I'm not 100% confident with V2 yet.

Here's a comparison with yet another variant: http://www.framecompare.com/screenshotco...n/FE10FNNU

What speaks for Variant 1:
- My obsession with the special green DCI-P3 white point which "should" in theory be correctly compensated in this variant.
- Many scenes seem to end up losing their green tint.
- In general the image just "feels right", vivid and impactful.

What speaks against it:
- White point looks slightly red-ish/pink-ish. This applies to title text too. However it's entirely possible I just made some slight mistake in the process resulting in this imperfection.

What speaks for Variant 2:
- White point is almost perfectly spot on. This variant also results in a almost perfectly neutral image when applied to the "Justice is Gray" edition, and the movie title texts also come out very neutral.
- It's based on a translation from D55 to D65 white point. I also tried D50 to D65 (that was actually the intent behind V1), but it was too blue. (Trivia: V1 actually had the D50 to D65 translation implemented wrong due to an error in my understanding of the process). It is believable that the movie might have been mastered in D55.
- It's basically "the grade V1 was trying to be", but without the gross mistakes.
- It creates a kind of "teal & orange" grade as a result, which I may not personally agree with necessarily, but it is widespread and plausible.

What speaks against it:
- I have no hard evidence to suggest that the movie may have been edited in D55.
- Scenes retain a bit more of a green or perhaps I should say teal. Might be intended though and one could argue that I should not be trying to fix something that was intended.

What both variants have in common is that I did a little tweak for more saturation. The saturation seemed suspiciously low to me, so I tried a variant of an old trick I used on Blu Rays: The assumption that they were mastered in Rec709 in a non-calibrated workflow on a monitor that sports a DCI-P3 gamut. In effect, this would mean that the colors are really meant to look right in DCI-P3, but the metadata says it's Rec709. This would seem like a stretch but it's given me pretty nice results on many Blu Rays I tried. Now, of course a UHD isn't Rec709, but Rec2020. So what I did here: Converted to Rec709 from Rec2020. Then reinterpreted that as DCI-P3. Thus raising saturation just a bit and in my opinion it actually looks more correct now.

Now, on the surface of it, V2 seems like the clear choice because of the clean white point. But given that the "feel" of the movie is really nice in variant 1 (it doesn't seem to be bogged down/muted in teal/green), and some scenes genuinely seem to look close to neutral with that variant ... I just can't decide. I wonder if maybe some parts of the movie were edited with a DCI white point and others with a D55 white point. Maybe the color grade was done in DCI on some scenes but the final master in D55, which would explain why the B&W version and text titles respond well to the D55 to D65 white point translation. Maybe my conversion from DCI white point to D65 in Variant 1 is simply not perfectly implemented and thus I get a slight red tint.

Or maybe all of this speculation is just completely wrong and none of this is true and just worked by sheer coincidence. OR maybe these are all half-truths and the reality is a combination of all of these ideas.

Curious to hear some feedback.

I'm a big fan of V1. V2 version 2 is the best variant, but it still looks too pink-ish to me.

Of course, I have NO expertise on color timing compared to the above that you wrote. But, uh...I like V1.

Well that's unexpected and funny, hah. Well, I guess everyone is happy with V1 so I can just do whatever I want for V2. Big Grin

Gotta say: The deeper I dig into this stuff, the less I understand, heh.

I agree that V1 still looks pretty good regardless of whether it is technically correct or not however I do think V2 variant 2 looks a little better. Yes, there's a bit more greeny-tealy stuff left in there (it is indeed verging on "teal and orange" as you say), but it's also more saturated and looks generally a bit more pleasing to me, considering the subject matter.

I also agree that V2 variant 1 looks a bit pinkish, though it's not massively obvious overkill or anything.

I won't even begin to examine what that means from a technical standpoint but subjectively I'm sayin' V2 var 2 is the winner.
