[Request] New transfer of Commando (1985) on Tubi TV
#61
Based on CSchmidlapp's 'Past Masters' project for The Rock, looks like the following was what was available to him at the time, doesn't look like the DTS Laserdisc sound has been captured . Anyone (including CSchmidlapp) who has that project willing to help get these synced for me to the 1080p 4k (my syncing skills aren't the best) or have the DTS.

DTSHD-MA 5.1 - Buena Vista US BD Mix ReEncoded from PCM
Criterion DVD DTS 5.1 Mix
Criterion DVD Dolby 5.1 Mix
Criterion DVD 2.0 Surround Mix
Commentary with director Michael Bay, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, stars Nicholas Cage, Ed Harris, Harry Humphries

I think they probably all have the same sync save an initial delay.

If no one takes you up for this, I'll do it like I did with Commando.

Thanks Stamper for the offer, PDB has already offered, so lets see how he goes, will let you know if he encounters any issues or maybe he wishes to pass the task over to you through lack of time. Really don’t mind who does it.

I know there isn't a Cinema DTS source (thanks, PDB, for that info) but is there Laserdisc DTS or anything else available for this which is better than Blu-ray PCM audio source.
This one doesn't fair as well as Con Air even though the bitrate is only slightly less (maybe due to the longer runtime) and suffers a little bit in the compression department especially with the grain but still quite a bit better than the old blu-ray transfer.
Here is a closer look:

Blu-ray

Also managed to grab The Untouchables CMAX (AMZN) 1080p 4k Remaster:

Variable / 15000 kb/s / 12.7 Mb/s / 1920 x 800

Is there a Cinema DTS source or Laserdisc sound available for this. Night and Day Difference between this and the old HDDVD & Blu-ray transfer which was both Dnr'ed and full of EE.

Cant wait for the Paramount UHD coming out on May 31st based on this preview.

The R1 standard and 2004 Special Collectors Edition DVD's both include a Dolby 2.0 Mix that I am sure is the Theatrical mix.

Way too old to have a Cinema DTS release, there is a remastered laserdisc with an AC-3 track which should contain the 6-track mag mix, it's incredibly elusive however I've never seen one come up in the UK (and importing is much more expensive these days, alas). The earlier LDs with 2.0 PCM are much more readily available.
Looking at the thumbs is the remaster the same as the previous master colourwise, just with improved sharpness/detail?

It would seem so, sadly, 'cause it's wrong. I don't see warm dusk light in the last office scene between Costner and Garcia, and I don't see automn/fall nature colors in the Canadian border scene either. Seems to be another failure à la "Silence of the Lambs", perfectly remastered technically but totally wrong artistically.

Untouchables won’t have a C-DTS since it’s too early. It’s def a Dolby Stereo/Surround production so the best bet is the LD if possible.

Edit: Nevermind Zoid got to it first.

Colors can be fixed if need be, underlying transfer is a revelation compared to the old transfer. Maybe best to wait for UHD before anyone attempts this in case it's just a case of a bad sdr conversion.
