I don't think re-syncing audio is revisionism. We're very happy to receive LD captures and the like from members here that have been synced using various methods to achieve the best sync possible and nobody cries revisionism.

Also, just because home media (at least since DVD) had a sync issue, doesn't say that the issue was present in cinema...

MrBrown, I do not know how far back this issue goes or even the extent of the supposed drift in sync, whether it's in all channels, what reference Turbine used to correct the sync etc., which is why I asked for more information. To me it sounds like Turbine fixed a problem that no one knew existed much like the gamma, in order to justify the purchase of their release. If they hadn't made mention of it would anyone have noticed?
Turisu, the reason no-one cries revisionism when members here (myself included) sync LD captures to blu rays or other HD sources is because it's a ridiculous thing to say. Pretty much every feature released on LD is split over at least 2 sides, and most feature extra/missing frames of footage compared to the HD source so editing is necessary in order for the thing to be watchable. You can't just stick a delay at the start.
To me there are degrees of revisionism, from little tweaks such as the ones claimed to be present on the Turbine release through to full-blown Lucas at the other end, with everything inbetween (Spielberg, Jackson, Mann, Cameron)

Why? Well, I now remember that for Halloween, I put the laserdisc track(s?) in sync, moving it (them?) few ms ahead (behind?)...

Jokes apart, I noticed in the Italian track years ago, but was lazy to fix it.

Audio wise, revisionism is, for example, the missing lines or sound (or added one) on an otherwise original mix, leaving the unaltered one apart; only the most fine ears can spot them; personally, I noticed it in the Italian track of Alien 3, at the beginning; the computer voice is missing completely from any DVD or BD tracks! Why, I don't know, but I managed to find out a TV track and put on the center channel at the right spot.

Revisionism is a hot topic; let's open a new thread about this, and stop here, to not derail this thread further!

I think what it boils down to is that Turbine fixed a problem that nobody even noticed or cared about in over 30 years of home video releases. So unless it can be demonstrated that this makes any perceptible difference at all then I don't think it should be a factor in determining which is the best track

Yes, the audio was re-synced for our release as we found a few offsets here and there. It's not that it was completely broken, but we could get it even more in sync so we did. Most viewers probably won't notice, even for the Arrow disc.

Gamma:

I don't want to comment on general encoding here, as people might say I am biased. I'd say the differences are minute.

But there is a pretty obvious jump in gamma when Kurt Russell walks down into the cave (more or less near the end if I remember correctly). On the Arrow disc you'll notice a jump in the picture from one frame to the next. I don't remember if it gets brighter or darker, but it is noticeable, as it's like someone is turning something off or on. This has been corrected, as well as black levels here and there.

Note: I am not saying this is a show stopper for everyone and also we collaborate with Arrow on different projects. All I am doing here is answering the question above about where we touched the transfer. I am not pointing fingers and I have respect for our colleagues on the other side of the channel. This is sporty competition, not rivalry, if I may word it like this.

I don't agree with this reasoning. Don't folks here routinely discover sync problems on official releases, the vast majority of which aren't perceived by most viewers? Should we accept all these sync errors just because "nobody even noticed or cared about" them before?

I'm not saying they shouldn't have done it. Just that an imperceptible improvement in lip sync doesn't automatically make it the best track.

The slightly greener tint in Turbine BD could indicate a rounding error.
