Just out of curiosity what's the audio for the Extended edition on the HD releases like? I know the video is SD and most likely will be evermore but have any releases included a lossless track? Also on facebook it was asked whether the 101 release of the Extended would have subtitles for the Japanese dialogue and apparently it will.

I did wonder about this. I listened to a podcast featuring Don May from Synapse and he was talking about sending a scan off to three different restoration companies before he was happy with the results. He said the first two companies took away non dirt detail, he was talking about hands going missing on certain shots etc - clearly they were running it on automatic dirt removal and weren't checking the results. Anyway I remember thinking at the time surely getting a Phoenix/PFClean licence and doing it in house would save money in the long run - but I guess they know what they are doing.

Is this just the normal cut graded to B&W?
I pretty sure it's not a Director's Cut due to the history of the production.

As far as I know its the theatrical cut with a shot-by-shot regrade to black and white. The extended cut was purely for the Japanese market to take advantage of Kitano's popularity there
