Think the VHS colors are definitely interesting. They remind me of the old BD transfer but with the contrast in a better place and an overall darker look. The old BD transfer also seems to have a bit of a pink push, which the VHS doesn't have.
Having tried to tweak the new "restored" master myself, it really is a mess. Certain scenes don't seem to have enough color information to restore to their natural splendor. Might have a go at regrading the old BD transfer one day to better match the VHS.

I don't think I've ever seen a different release on HD, the first Blu-Ray release is OOP here in Italy and I never managed to get my hands on it but from Caps-a-holic I can see that the DVD colors are closer to the VHS, clearly without that extra layer of piss added on top https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&...99&i=4&l=0

I believe the first release is technically OOP stateside but still easy to get used if you're region free. It appears to be the same underlying master as the PAL DVD, but weirdly soft for a Blu-Ray
https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&...64&i=9&l=0 Come to think of it, I've never tried to find an HDTV rip, but that might be the first master without the filtering of the Blu-Ray. Must try to find that lol. As far as colors go, it looks like the real deal. Must be from a very old transfer that they used, before the Italians of Cineteca di Bologna came to restore it from negative and piss on it.
I have an all-region player. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on it.

So, I found an HDTV rip on RuTracker, and it seems like the old HD master but with slightly tweaked (worse) color but more fine detail! Definitely think it's the best basis for a regrade since it has chroma information that the new restoration doesn't have.
Only problem is that it's got a logo but probably can just patch in the old BD since it's the same master. BD ![]() HDTV ![]() BD ![]() HDTV ![]() BD ![]() HDTV ![]() BD ![]() HDTV ![]() Shocked, in hindsight, that the BD of the already dated master has such bad detail. I used to love this regrade, although in hindsight after a few years of watching older films with proper transfers, this appears to be way too saturated. I dialled this back about 30% and it looks way more authentic to the period in which the film is based in.
