Proposal: The James Cameron Project
So as I assumed, it looks like some parts of the images are repainted, using the same software that the Avatar films use when repainting humans as Avatars (or as humans). That can explain they created a cross-eyed Arnold in the opening sequence, when in the original footage, there was only darkness in place of his eyes.

so its exactly what I thought it was. And our fav love-him-or-hate-him BH is carrying water for them. Why not call it what it is? a 4k upscale that can be hit or miss, looks mostly miss. I believe the Abyss was rescanned from the negative. True Lies? Seen nothing yet to lend credence to that. They never even talked about that over the years. It was just "oh btw you know how you were all waiting for the Abyss? Turns out in that time we also rescanned Aliens AND True Lies! Surprise!". I'm skeptical they did. IF they did.. then Park Road ruined it.
I'll be honest here..always had a HUGE crush on Jamie Lee. When I heard the 4k was finally coming, I was anticipating being able to see details (in the famous stripperpole scene) like skin pores and even light forearm hair that we've never seen before.
What we got (thus far) is an over-DNR'd waxy, AI mess.

.and here's the new "Park Road™ optimized" cover:

^^Ok, that one was a joke 😂

I've spent a lot of time screwing around with Topaz AI, with some pretty dramatic results but there's almost always things that you can spot, especially if you know what to look for. I have noticed, pretty consistently, that eyes are something that the AI seems to over accentuate. Eyes will often be shadowed in the source material (sometimes just one) but the AI will make them literally pop out with brightness and definition and give them an alien like look.

All the AI models need way more hours logged in training on eyes and teeth. Interestingly enough, in my AI upscaling tests, the models never seem to get naked female bodies incorrect (lol). I wonder why that is Wink

I'm hearing rumors that the 4K version of Aliens has been given the same treatment as TL and Abyss

True Lies is the old master upscaled.
Abyss is the new HDTV master upscaled.
Aliens is the old BD master upscaled.
None of them are new 4k masters from any of the negatives.

The site was made for releases like this, and the blind faith squad called me out...
Now look what we have.
Make my mind up in advance? Or knew Park Road were working on this and this would be the outcome?.
T2 wasn't a mistake, this is the look now.

the remaster of Frighteners looks incredible. Crisp, tons of resolution, all the grain. I'm guessing Park Road didn't touch any of it.

The remaster was done by LSP Medien in Germany on behalf of Turbine.
That's why this remaster/restauration is exclusive to Turbine for 4 or 5 years. Can't remember.

On the bright side, maybe the new releases can be used as sources for finding better color balance for previous releases(?)
I'm probably fooling myself.

It's super 35 and they are all per pixel exact in those comparison.
The likelihood that they are exactly framed is near impossible.
Aliens and titanic were scanned at 4k and mastered at 2k.
Then upscaled to this.
Abyss is the best from these (still could look miles better) but no OG audio is a crime.
