The Godfather Trilogy 4K UHD

Maybe an animated GIF or a cropped clip?

Having synced the subs from the Blu-rays I reckon I can live with Parts 2 & 3.

For GF1 the grain management seems much worse. I've never experimented much with adding grain to projects but I wonder if that might be a way to mitigate the worst of it. Has anyone had any luck trying to 'disguise' frozen grain?

Not that I know of. I have the hardest time getting it to show up in clips now that I spot tiny fleeting instances of frozen or stuck grain on Blu-ray encodes on my OLED.

1 gets the worst treatment overall. 2 has much less of all the nasty issues but they're still there and randomly theres a whole scene in 2 that looks like utter garbage and is the worst in the trilogy. 3 has some issues but much less than 2.

If we could get the raw 4K scans and start over it would be great. The new masters are so fubar that you're better off sticking with the 2007 BDs on all three just to avoid the insane processing and manipulation Paramount did.

Do these same issues exist on the 4K SDR WEB-DLs. I notice these have the 2007 colour grading.

That shouldn’t be. The sdr 1080p discs of the new master are the same fubar crap with crappy encoding. The 4k streaming should be the same crud master.
The 2007 was never issued higher than 1080p as far as I know. If those were re-encoded and fixed the slight red push they would be perfect.

The 4K SDR WEB-DLs are perfect actually. They are the 2007 BD master issued at a higher resolution.

Pity that Coppola's latest releases are... unfortunate restorations.

Haha you got me @Yarp not perfect, but I'll take them in a heartbeat over the 4K discs.

I've had plans to clean up the compression on those two Web-DLs for a while now. Hopefully, I can get to it sooner then later. Need to track down some audio.
