So is it blue enough for those who have had a 35mm film print experience?

Gorehounds are usually captures rather than straight rip, you can tell by bitrate been only around 14.7mbs rather than 24.7mbs and no DV, will wait for full iT rips of both this and City of Fire, won’t be long. Don’t like either of these enough to purchase/rent myself.

I've added it to the comparison earlier in the thread.
Long story short... nope.

I must add though that the main purpose of this restoration was to restore the original negative.
Of which I think has been accomplished with flying colours.
It's drain of blue can be emulated by adding your own film related LUTS of every part of the processes in a video editing programme. Although far from what I've seen personally, I've got to respect what was presented by the 'marketing' on this one.
This negative was once considered lost and, when found, in very bad condition.

I take this as a pure representation of the original camera negative.
Adding the colour LUTS to emulate the process may put us something close to a 35mm presentation, but that was chemical.
The variations of environment, technology, memory and budget involved in all this give us a pretty wide spectrum to debate what was right when we saw it around the world over 30 years ago.

I'd like a UHD release to fully appreciate this, which I think is sure to follow.

But as a fan, please stop the blue hate on grades!
It's a beautiful colour.

Hell, yeah! I'm with you. Blue Gang member here! I remember an aborted project of PDB's that was aiming at emulating the colors of the French DVD, and it looked very promising and quite lovely in the scenes bathed in blue. Much better than the warm yellow of the master he was using as source to work on.

100%
The PDB project went from an upscale of the French DVD to a regrade of the Japanese BD.
I love PDB's work and would like to endorse his evolvement in the Arrow release if any of those peeps are listening.

You also Beber, I just watched your Heat grade and it's awesome!
As a fan of cinema, I think the understanding of all the 'film' delivery process has been completely dismissed.
There is no way the experts involved did not know how the image would change through the various stages to both accommodate their vision and shape the final product.

There has been discussion of late about the worth of this place due to freeloaders, I'd suggest this thread as an example of why It's so important. Let's not let them ruin the party Smile

I guess this new master will be used as source for a regrade to the bluer French DVD when it'll be available in high quality. Knowing the guys who were involved in the HK Video collection in France back then, the DVD is probably very faithful to what it should look like and probably is the best reference to use.
