[No LongerAvailable]The Good,The Bad and The Ugly International Cut/US Theatrical Cut
#61
Those pics were from a version 1 of a test regrade. It was just based on the random samples that Brutto posted and was just one LUT for the whole film. So if I got close to anything of what the IB looked like in the final duel then I am very proud.

I did do a few more tests. I think the later ones tended a little redder per the samples at the time.

Anyway if I ever did another version, I would use the 4K as the base (hopefully the Kino is easier to adjust) and grade it to the IB tech as much as possible. I don't see a reason to go with any other colors and if someone like the Mondo's colors...well there is a version like that already out there. Smile

Stamper never heard of indianagilles or any version he/she did. Is there a link somewhere or pics?

Indianagilles and his team did basically the same thing you did. They conformed the Mondo BD (primary source) to the International Cut/French cut and used the MGM 4K where necessary. What was really cool about their project is that they digitally recreated the French opening credits using an old France 3 (FR3) VHSrip as a reference. I believe there was an old French dub, which was superior to a newer redub, that they acquired and sync'd to the IC. I was in communication with him exactly a year ago and obtained a copy of the FR3 rip. One of the team members (RetroMike) generously provided us with a literal translation of the original French dub that we're going to include with our V1 release.

Actually, you weren't. I just had a quick look at their version and it includes the extra shots in the opening scene and dining scene so it's not the IC. I didn't have a chance to go through the entire film but that was enough for me to determine that you created the "real deal" (or "reel deel" Tongue ).

I'm actually planning my own restoration of TGTBATU, except I'll be doing all known cuts, and not just the TC/IC. Needless to say, the Kino Blu-ray, when it comes out later this year, will be my primary source, assuming the video looks any better than previous HD releases (the included cuts ARE sourced from a 4K transfer, after all). I'll also be including that moment from the desert walk scene with Blondie and the skeleton which'll appear on the Kino Blu-ray in at least one of the cuts which will feature on my restoration.

Yeah but I took out the brick wall so no one's perfect Big Grin .

Thanks for the info.

Very cool project. It's weird that they dropped the shot of the brick wall exploding when Tuco is about to hang Blondie in the LD. From what I gather, that was the key difference between LD and Theatrical.

Haven't gotten into MySpleen yet but think I found a source for your project PDB. I hope to watch it this weekend. Thanks for the work!

I think the brickwall shot isn't on the original FRench TV airing copy, that's why they cut it out.
Also on note, there was a TV airing of OUATITW with the real Leone cut too, alas it's not online yet, though I was able to save a german version of the same from youtube. No rising platform scene of course.
