[No LongerAvailable]The Good,The Bad and The Ugly International Cut/US Theatrical Cut

Haven't gotten into MySpleen yet but think I found a source for your project PDB. I hope to watch it this weekend. Thanks for the work!

Thanks rickstamna05!

Didn't know it was anywhere but on MS.

Someone (not sure if I can say who) gave me a copy of the Spanish DVD which was the '98 DVD/LD master cut down to the IC. That had the brick wall shot even though the US LD didn't. So I knew it was possibly part of the IC but in the end I was using the LD as the standard so out it went.

If I do a version 2 (and it looks like the Kino will need work) I'll make sure it's back in. I did the original project in sort of a rush to see if I could complete a project in a short time frame so there are a few little things in my project I'd like to fix also.

That sir, made my day because it reminds me that I first watched this movie with my dad on VHS years ago in very much the same way. One day when he is old enough, I'll do the same for my son. Cheers!

Also on note, there was a TV airing of OUATITW with the real Leone cut too, alas it's not online yet, though I was able to save a german version of the same from youtube. No rising platform scene of course.

Didn't someone do a OUATITW project to fix that and the ending music? Where there other issues?

Could any of your guys upload png screenshots of the Mondo and 4K versions of the same frame? I'd like to see what you mean by "the colors are bad" and maybe see if the detail of one can be combined with the colors of the other.

Ah. Which one is the 4K? The Kino Lorber? Hardly looks any better, some screenshots look worse than the Mondo. Colors definitely blander.

Ah got it. Can't say the remaster looks that much better to me. And yeah, the colors are messed up, but probably fixable. Not sure its worth the effort though. The remastered has less grain, but is it sharper? Not sure.

I'm using the Kino as one source for my own restoration, if only for the UA logo at the start of the theatrical cut and to merge chroma with the previous Fox BD.

I finally bought a handful of Kino discs in their big site sale but you have to research every one because 9 times out of 10 someone else will do a better release. Really half assed encoding and bare bones is putting it mildly. I finally broke down and bought Broken Arrow which is now up on Capsaholic with a foreign better encode-argh!

The more that comes out of this, the more is revealed just how messed up their GBU is. It's not just we did what we could with what we were given, it's a lack of effort and care. This is a problem with having a multitude of small labels doing releases all over the place. At least with the studio doing it the encode is usually good and you get the same transfer for a fraction of the price.

Dude. The people who work at Kino have very little support, resources, and don't get paid nearly as much as you think they do. I think everyone would prefer a world where film restoration work was given a lot of time and funding, but capitalism and profit motives are directly opposed to that. There is no money in this since streaming shrunk the physical media market. They didn't have access to anything but the existing MGM scan and they tried to make it better. It's not a great result, but I'm sure they care very much about the films they handle. You don't have to purchase anything you don't want to.

But they were paid, nevertheless... here we have people who worked for free, can do a better job, and even offered them free help... so, they have no excuses to have released a faulty product - I mean, when I pay for something, I expect that something worth at least the price I paid, and this seems not to be the case...

It was made possible by an anonymous uploader from BT.

Anyone been able to burn this to disc? I've tried a couple of times converting it to a Bluray using DVDFab but there seems to be some issue preventing it.

Also, just wondering what was behind the decision to save the project in its current format rather than as a Bluray? I don't know what size the original disc was but I'm guessing it was somewhat larger than 20GB, which seems small for such a lengthy film? Considering all the work put into this, it surely deserves saving in optimum form.

Hi asiamiles. First of all welcome. You should introduce yourself if you intend to stay. Hopefully you read this thread before posting.

The MKV is fully BD compatible AVC. Correct bit-rate, settings, profile, etc. Can't help you with Fab since I don't use it. Maybe try TSmuxer?

Not many people play these projects burned on BDs anymore. The preferred format by most is MKV. I keep the stream BD compatible and the size under the 25/23GB limit of single layer BD-Rs for legacy setups, such as yours. At 17 mb/s its lower then my preferred 20 and above but for a movie with little fast moving action and one soundtrack, the 17 seems to work just fine. 18 to 19 took it over spec. Remember if you read this thread this was meant to be stopgap for better projects so people could final see the IC again. This was long before the Kino BD appeared
