[proposal] The Warriors Theatrical
#1
http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=4270

I know that there was talk of someone doing this over at OT but not sure if that project is still alive?

What I was going to try was to try and improve the quality of the iTunes 1080p version I have and then take parts of it to replace the changed footage in the blu-ray. The blu-ray has significnaly better pq so would look to add some grain to the iTunes parts to make the transitions as smooth as possible. There aren't too many parts that need changing so shouldn't take too long.

Is there a recommended way to add grain to an mkv or mpg file? I know a few people have talked about doing it in other threads so any help would be appreciated.

I was also following that thread since I love the Warriors but hate the DC. Was going to try it myself someday....

There is also a HDTV broadcast that is on occasionally in the US. So there might be a higher bitrate video out there if can be found.

You can add grain a few different ways. Some people do it via avisnyth's overlaying. I use Adobe Premiere's opacity/overlay function but any NLE will have the ability to do the same. If you search the web you can find some grain scans to use. A quick search gave me this:

Its better to use a scan of grain then a random noise generator. It just looks more natural.

Good luck!

Not long ago I dowloaded a version made by merging the Bluray with parts from the DVD but unfortunately the difference was way too noticeable. I'm sure the OT thread is still alive but I'm totally confused about what has been released and what hasn't. Somebody mentioned the iTunes HD source on that thread... has it been integrated and released yet?

DarkJedi had one project over at OT and TM2YC at fandedit had another. I have no clue as to the state of either project.

A couple 16mm prints have popped up in the past few years. Maybe we could try to pool our resources the next time one shows up?

There might have been a third auction, but I can't find it.

I haven't seen the iTunes version but I'm guessing it's 1080p... maybe it will be a bit compressed but if it mixes well with the Bluray I don't think we need an actual 16mm. We just have to try not to re-encode it too many times

Re-encoding shouldn't be a problem. You take the original source file, work on any changes/filter/real grain - all in an intermediary lossless file and then encode to final render. The lossless "in between" file is where you do all your editing to ensure that compression artifacts aren't introduced to your workflowWink
