Now that there's no white flash between the shooting and the hospital, I think that flash after the credits doesn't match.

My suggestion is:

* Cut to Rick awake

* Not calling Shane (I still think it's better not having him talking until he falls and panics)

* Shot of the whole room (to give a sense of space and showing that he is alone)

* Rick looking at the flowers and so on...

Kind of one of the cuts I sent you. I'm stubborn, I know. Big Grin

LOLSmile

I'll see how that works when I go back to fix anything that might need it. For now, my friend, it 6.30 in the morning and once again I've been up all night... Am going to take a little nap before daughters wake me up. Look forward to reading your further commentsWink

Ok, so I reviewed the workprint one more time and haven't found anything extra to mention that I think needs any changes. I am still hoping for comments before I start encoding the final 1080p video. Audio is a SEPARATE issue, especially the foreign tracks and I will work on all of them once I have the "master" 1080p video encoded. I will not post another workprint, as any changes that are left are extremely minor (maybe, if needed, I can encode SD "samples" of things that need to be altered, but not entire film)

The two main questions that I have concerning the current workprint are:

What are your thoughts on the transition from right after the walkers invade the camp at night to the morning scene? Should I do a longer fade out on the first scene or just do a direct cut from scene to scene?

What are your thoughts on the music-timing issue I mentioned earlier, during the scene right before Jenner whispers in Rick's ear? Where do you think the music should fade-out and go to the "actual music" of that scene?

Those are my main "issues" and if there is anything that I didn't mention on my last post (the one with timecodes) then let me know, but I think this first film in nearly completeWink

Andrea, I will send you audio to check (for the Italian track) once I have the 1080p "master" video encoded Smile

I hadn't much time to watch it, but I'm viewing those 2 conflictive points right now.

The transition from night to day is too short, yes. As the night scene has music, I don't think a direct cut would work. I would do a longer fade out, maybe add some black frames and then... I guess you can't make a longer fade in. Maybe if you start with the scene of Daryl walking away from the group that scene would allow some more "fade in" frames.

As for the Jenner and Rick scene, I would fade the music even earlier. Maybe start fading out at 02:02:58:00 and arrive at 02:02:59:00 with around 25% of the volume and then transition to the next music when Rick hears the secret.

Some more comments:

At 00:50:22:00 I think you should make a fade to black transition. Maybe from 00:50:21:00 to 00:50:23:00. I think a cut to almost the same view with binoculars some time later doesn't feel right, and a fade would give the idea of the pass of time during which they gathered with the binoculars.

OK, I notice this one since the previous workprint but I didn't have the time to comment it. At 00:59:26:00 we see the red car driving at the side of the truck, but the next shot shows the car through the mirror far behind the truck. Maybe the easiest way to fix it is to cut the part when we see the side of the truck, from 00:59:25:22 to 00:59:26:13 (approx.).

01:01:12:06 - Did you try to do a direct cut here but just of the video, leaving the audio as is right now? I think it would work better.

01:01:24:05 - Here T-Dog says that he dropped the key. What key? Correct me if I'm wrong, but in your cut Rick never gives the key to him (I can be mistaken, since I'm watching this quite fast). When Rick handcuffs Merle, he fakes that he throws the key to the street. I think it could be left as he really throws it. If you cut out T-Dog saying that (at the truck and later at the camp) and the reactions of the other survivors I think it would be better, as the blame falls on Rick. You could cut from 01:01:11:23 to 01:01:33:10 and you would also avoid the transition I commented at the paragraph before. Also, the conversation at 01:01:33:10 fits with the fact that leaving Merle there was Ricks fault (I don't get one phrase, my english is good but not perfect, but I think they don't mention T-Dog on that scene).

This cut will force you to cut T-Dog confessing at the camp. I think it could work like this. T-Dog still says he chained the door. He tries to protect Rick saying that it wasn't Rick's fault (it really was Merle's fault, Rick was just helping T-Dog), but nothing else. I made a quick edit of the scene: https://mega.co.nz/#!FV4E0BSC!ufjU7C-Dtg...we4gq4i468

the transition from night to day could work with a direct cut on the video, leaving the audio "as-is" now... but I will probably just extend the fade-out...

the jenner scene should not be too big of a problem to fix as it's just a matter of timingWink

at 00:50:22:00 the reason this is a direct cut (as I tried a fade to black here) is the audio, particularly the thunder sfx that I mentioned in the timecoded comment... trying to fade the audio out as well, made the thunder sfx sound VERY unrealistic, whereas now there is a continuity to it. I can try to re-work this one, but I honestly think the source is too limited for any real change hereSad HOWEVER, I do see your point about it being abrupt, will see what I can doWink

your comment about what we see at 00:59:26:00 is funny because here you caught an editing error in the original source footage. this scene is un-cut and the "gluing" of scenes I did is at much later point (easily found because of crossfade)... could I try to fix this? i will try, but this scene being edited will be completely dependent on whether I can get the audio to transition smoothly...

01:01:12:06- yes I did try to do a direct cut here (with the audio "as-is" now) and it just seemed very awkward as the truck is going one direction and then (what looks like, at least onscreen) back across the screen towards where it just came from... it just didn't look right trying to do a direct cut here. I can make a quick sample and show you if you'd like to see what I mean...

01:01:24:05- ok, so first off, when we see rick throwing something off the top of building, we hear merle yell at him "hey man, that's my stuff..." talking about his drugs which we see rick take from merle at 00:49:33:00... so unless i edited all that out, the viewer would NEVER think that rick threw the key... also, the key is referenced (i actually cut the scene back in a few workprints ago, before I "announced" this project) right after rick and group chop up the walker with the axe ( timecode here is 00:52:59:00 ) here t-dog directly asks "what about merle dixon?" and rick gives him the key...

And doing a fade to black but leaving the audio mix as it is now?

Yes, that would be nice.

Ok, I didn't get it was Merle's drugs what he was throwing. I also missed the part at the axe scene since I was jumping through scenes and I missed that one. In that case there's no problem. Big Grin

for that first one, I haven't tried just fading the video to black... will see if that worksWink

here's the sample for the "truck" transition:

I don't see the problem with the truck. It's an angle change. It's not the same street.

You could also do this: https://mega.co.nz/#!BVAmAKLI!Djh5b1a-YU...xBePb7Ue-4

It looks too abrupt to me, but...

Maybe it's just appears weird to me or maybe I just like that "morphing" transition, LOL...
I will show this to a couple of people here tomorrow (or rather, in the morning) and try to get a couple of extra opinions as I am very conflicted about this scene change... maybe it just looks abrupt to me because I was viewing it on a 52" screenSmile

As far as the cut that you included in your sample, yes, I think it's too abrupt as well.
