How to convert Dolby Vision Profile 8 to 7 to make it UHD BD compliant?
Posted by: Red41804 - 2024-09-13, 04:13 AM - Forum: Converting, encoding, authoring - Replies (7)

I have a mkv with Dolby Vision Profile 8 I want to burn onto a UHD Blu Ray to replace to HDR only video stream, and Dolby Vision on UHD discs are usually Profile 7, how do I do so since I'm new to making custom Blu ray folders and discs?

  I am new here. Hello.
Posted by: 321GameTime - 2024-09-11, 08:15 AM - Forum: Presentation - No Replies

Was doing a Google search to try and see if anyone had done a regrade of Aliens since I finally saw the movie for the first time recently and I am now OBSESSED and want the best version available, and the second search result was LucasGodzilla's regrade on this forum. I am so surprised I haven't discovered this place sooner because I absolutely love fan restorations. You can thank Dragon Ball for that!

Super happy to be here. I know as soon as I'm able to PM people, I'm probably going to get that Aliens edit first, but I am excited to see what other people have worked on here, and maybe even learn how to do edits myself.

  HD-DVD Exclusive Special Features
Posted by: Pineapples101 - 2024-09-09, 09:58 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (1)

I hope this is the correct forum to post this.
With rampant HD-DVD disc rot, I didn't want these special features disappearing forever. Below is a list of special features exclusive to HD-DVD, if anyone can add to this list I would be very interested in knowing what I might have missed.

All info from here:
http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/

Troy - Theatrical HD-DVD
High Definition Exclusive Bonus features: "In-Movie Experience" video commentary
Notes: I can confirm that '4 Previsualizations: - Greek Ship Towing a Waterskier - Greek Warriors - Two Greek Ships and 1,000 Rubber Duckies - Warriors Using Urinals' is on the Blu Ray and is called 'Greek Ship Towing'.

American Gangster HD-DVD
Theatrical Cut - High Definition Exclusive Bonus features: - "U-Control" Picture-In-Picture video commentary (with cast and crew interviews and "Behind-the-Scenes" footage)
"Uncovering the Past: The Real Frank Lucas and Richie Roberts" -featurette (4:29 min)
Notes: The featurette appears to be HD-DVD exclusive, it doesn't appear on the Blu Ray or 4K.
I can confirm that the "U-Control" PIP feature is exclusive to the HD-DVD theatrical cut. There is a PIP feature on the Blu Ray, but it's on the Extended Cut. As far as I can tell, all the PIP segments on the HD-DVD theatrical cut are also on the Blu Ray Extended Cut PIP feature, but for the sake of being complete I thought I should mention it here.

Poseidon HD-DVD
"In-Movie Experience" video commentary with actor Josh Lucas

I now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry
"I Now Pronounce You Husband and... Husband?" -featurette
"Look Who Dropped By" -featurette
"Stop, Drop and Roll" -featurette
"Dugan: The Hands-On Director" -featurette
8 deleted scenes
"Laughing is Contagious" -featurette
Notes:The HD-DVD has the featurettes and deleted scene in HD, the US Blu Ray doesn't include any of these and the DVD is all in SD. So these appear to be HD-DVD exclusive in HD.
Notes: I'm using OSB Studio to record these features as MakeMKV doesn't recognize the disc. The featurettes and deleted scenes record as 720p, so they are not full HD.

If anyone wants any of the above special features I can share, just send me a PM.

Evan Almighty HD-DVD
"U-Control":
-Picture-In-Picture video commentary
-"Ark Building for Dummies" guide
-"Get on Board" trivia track
Notes: My UK disc has rot, so I have been unable to extract or record any of the special features, if anyone has a back-up ISO they might want to share, it would be appreciated.

  BFI National Archive Tour
Posted by: Bigrob - 2024-09-09, 08:49 AM - Forum: Everything else... - Replies (2)

On a whim, I ventured just out of the M25 to Berkhamsted to visit the BFI archive for their open day tour which was part of the Heritage Day event.

What a fantastic afternoon out! even my 14 year old son enjoyed it

saw a £1000,000 scan station in action (scanned up to 12k but the gauges only went up to 35mm. really intelligent piece of kit that scans the entire reel and then produced a report automatically with the type of print used, type of audio. any defects like tears and splices, colour used in the print etc etc.
In the inspection department there was some 35mm reel cans lined up that had Hammer Horror written on them  Happy

also took a picture of the different types of audio used on prints and also how to identify where the print came from and how old it is

also had a look in the vault and lots of 35mm prints and mag audio in storage (mag audio doesn't like the sub zero temps where the master prints are kept)

Video not cutting to exact timestamps in AviDemux
Posted by: Red41804 - 2024-09-08, 05:06 AM - Forum: Audio and video editing - Replies (5)

I'm using a MKV file of a UHD copy of the Evil Dead (the 1981 version) and I'm trying to edit out the Lionsgate logo at the beginning, cutting from exact timestamps, but the final video still has a few seconds of the logo. Any idea on how I can cut files losslessly to the exact timestamps?

Has the original scope version ever been released?
Or are we stuck with the 1.78:1?
I know there were prints floating about at one point, but I'm shocked it's become lost.
