  Hi!

Hey everyone. Just introducing myself here.

I'm an old sod from before the Blockbuster era who's getting sick and tired of revised colour grades that destroy the original feeling. It irks me. So I'm trying my hand at "premastering" Aliens to make it look like clean footage straight out of the bath.

It's a playful way to learn DaVinci Resolve and correct a trend that occurred around the time everything went "Blu".

If I'm allowed I'll post a few screenshots of my progress looking for feedback. I've not been through the site rules as yet though so we'll see.

Cheers

Hey, guys.

Am I the only one who have this bug on the homepage on my PC? It's been like that for about a week now. It's fine on my phone.

Yes, I owned both versions. Given that there is a D-Theater sync already, I thought it would be really cool to post it here.

I honestly wonder if reel 4 has been changed halfway through release, because I remember when watching this on the first UK DVD release and on the UK Extreme Cool Edition DVD, Diego yells, "Move, sloth!", the reverb effects are in the same level as his voice, though on this disc, it is quiet. Could've just been a Mandela effect, though since the audio file for reel 4 says it's a revision, I don't know if the original reel 4 does have the loud reverb effects or not. DTS usually tends to include a blue colour on discs in case there was a revision, though since it is red, it seems reel 4 has been changed before encoding, meaning this is what it was heard on opening night.

Also, the LFE channel on the German track seems to be very quiet, though the only times the LFE channel is at a normal level is at:

  • 00:13:16.754 to 00:16:59.351
  • beginning of Reel 3 to 00:31:08.575
  • 00:46:00.000 to 00:47:44.862
  • beginning of Reel 5 to 01:13:55.014
  • 01:15:32.194 to end of film

I haven't listened to the German BD track, so maybe this is either what the LFE channel originally intended early in the final mix or this is just an error.

Hi everyone!

I came across this forum while searching for a fan restoration of the Highlander 2 theatrical European cut.
Let's say I searched for copper and found gold.

I'm amazed by what's been done here.

Hi everyone, I've been pursuing a passion project of putting contemporary movies onto VHS tapes, and Open Matte/IMAX restorations are much better for pan-and-scan than letterboxed home video releases. Looking forward to taking part in this cool community!

  Starchaser 3D
Posted by: Chris Solo - 2026-05-25, 07:11 AM - Forum: In progress - Replies (9)

Several years ago (a LIFETIME ago) I was looking into doing a release of Starchaser The Legend of Orin in true 3D. Life got "complicated". Now, after a new house, a boat explosion, an extended burn unit stay and a few surgical procedures later, I am finally back to the project. For sources I have a scan of a 35mm release print with over/under 3D (left eye top, right eye bottom), commercially released flat blu-ray (left eye), stereo track from the scan, mono track from the blu-ray and stereo track from the laserdisc. I have done some work with the scan only and have successfully created SBS 3D tests. The scan has a bit of gate weave at start of each reel (five reels in total) and I'm having no luck remedying that. Being able to complete a project using just the scan will be very doable by me. However, ultimately I would like to use the blu-ray for the left eye and the bottom image from the scan for the right eye. The scan would benefit greatly from someone with more experience in stabilization and film cleanup (scratches and dirt removal, etc). Any takers, please message me. I am forging ahead on my limited ability but really want to get this done. I know 3D is not widely used these days outside of projector based home theater rooms, which I have, but if there is any interest from anyone let me know. Thanks. Sorry for the decade long delay.
