Scrooged (1988) [LV 32054] synced to UHD
Posted by: wright96d - 2022-12-20, 11:08 PM - Forum: Released - Replies (1)

Input Soundtrack: 16-bit, 44.1khz, Stereo (bit perfect)
Output Soundtrack: 16-bit, 44.1khz, Stereo
Sourced by: BDgeek / alinskey

Please thanks and PM for access

NOTE: While exacting bit-perfect accuracy is typically preferred for LD syncs, I prefer to use speed adjustments to keep synchronization. I also insert BD audio to cover reel changes or side breaks when necessary. As well as minor filtering in the form of DC Offset correction, de-humming, and manual declicking (when necessary). 2.0 mono tracks are processed with Voxengo MSED to remove stereo information unless stated otherwise.

  Xanadu DVD 4.0 to bluray
Posted by: uVSthem - 2022-12-16, 12:28 PM - Forum: Released - Replies (10)

I synced up the original region 1 DVD's Dolby Digital 4.0 track to the bluray. I'm assuming the audio on the DVD is the original 4-track stereo mix.

Hi guys, I was looking for Harry Potter Open Matte versions and came across this forum! It's a shame that companies aren't willing to restore old movies and people have to it on their own.

I would be willingly buying an open matte versions with restored image quality, but for the most of my favorite movies this is not an option.

Thanks to all people who do such projects on their own!

  The Avengers: Series 5 (1967) - Remastered
Posted by: TheLoon - 2022-12-14, 01:08 AM - Forum: In progress - Replies (8)

Hi folks, a new project for you all - a remastered version of the classic British spy-fi show The Avengers, Series 5 (probably the most popular season with Diana Rigg as Emma Peel) with numerous fixes to StudioCanal's rather disastrous Blu-ray transfer from 2010. The will be an ongoing release over the next few years as I find the time to work on it - the first two episodes are available now (PM for link)!

Improvements are:

1. Resynced video to the much clearer soundtrack from the 2001 UK DVD release by Contender. The Blu-ray audio was heavily NR'd.

2. Shot-by-shot colour correction using the Contender DVD image as a reference. The Blu-ray's grading was among the poorest I've seen for a major TV series - very flat, faded, red/pink (see the comparison video above).

3. Fixed the framing on several shots which were opened up too much on the Blu-ray revealing the corners of the frame and hairs on the gate that were not visible in the original broadcast.

4. Restored film grain, which was scrubbed from the Blu-ray. Helpfully, the first and last frame of most shots on the Blu-ray showed the original grain (it's the way these automated DNR tools worked at the time) and so I was able to judge the exact level required.

5. Removed motion-blur from the opening and closing credits. Footage for the credits is supplied from the 2019 Network Blu-ray "The Cybernauts Trilogy", which had superior detail to the StudioCanal transfer, but also some temporal NR errors which I've patched out.

Iron Man 4K: US vs. DE
Posted by: WDW203 - 2022-12-13, 07:30 AM - Forum: Official and unofficial releases - Replies (7)

I was browsing caps-a-holic recently when I came across an oddity: Each film in the Iron Man trilogy has a US and a DE release listed, and they are strikingly different. The DE release appears to have less DNR and the pre-Atmouse 5.1 mix. It seems to have color issues, but I guess you can't really tell from a tonemapped screenshot.

Here's one of the more interesting comparisons: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a=0&...28&i=9&l=0
In the US 4K ashes just disappear.

Here's the link for all 3 films: https://caps-a-holic.com/index.php?s=iron+man+

What say you?

  Executive Decision Theatrical Version
Posted by: alleycat - 2022-12-12, 07:36 PM - Forum: Released - Replies (4)

Executive Decision was released uncensored theatrically, on laserdisc and on the first US DVD. Every subsequent DVD and Blu Ray has been the International Cut, which has seven instances of censorship, removing religious references. There are cuts, alternate shots, alternate dialogue and digital alterations.

The initial plan for this project was to take the blu ray, insert the uncut footage from the DVD and time it to the laserdisc for the audio. @Inq81 kindly sent me the DVD, however it suffers from extremely bad edge enhancement that could not be fixed. I just so happened to check a HDTV rip found on a Russian site and to my surprise it featured the uncut version. It was not perfect, it was SD resolution and soft with very bad colors, but it did not have the edge enhancement. So the uncut footage was sourced from this instead.

The blu ray footage was given a partial CRT LUT and a few slight adjustments to reduce the level of red. The HDTV footage was cropped, cleaned and upscaled in Avisynth. Then it was dust cleaned in Phoenix and further cleaned in Topaz. Then finally it was color corrected to match the blu ray and regrained in After Effects.

For one of the shots, which had been digitally altered in the blu ray, I got to use a new technique - rotoscoping (well tracking mask). See the shots below, first is the blu ray where the book has been erased:

Next is the HDTV showing the book:

Then the masked book after color correction:

Finally the book, aligned to the blu ray, with some feathering:

After doing this I saw they didn't do the best job of the original censorship, not only did they remove the book but they removed part of his hand and part of the background, but the entire scene is only 11 frames so I guess they figured no one would notice.

@zoidberg kindly captured by the AC3 and PCM from the uncensored laserdisc. The English subtitles were taken from the DVD and adjusted/added to when necessary. Interestly the subtitles, even on the uncensored DVD, do not follow the uncensored audio.

In terms of extra features there is not a great deal, but I added some interviews from youtube and the trailer.

  • BD25 with animated menus, background video, pop up menus and resume function
  • 1080P AVC Video
  • English AC3 5.1 (Dialnorm retained) and PCM 2.0 from the laserdisc (thanks @zoidberg)
  • English SDH Subtitles
  • Interviews with Kurt Russell, Halle Berry, John Leguizamo, Joel Silver & Stuart Baird
  • Theatrical Trailer
