Hey PDB, did you consider redoing the final shot to remove Harlan Ellison imposed credit?
As you try this preserv to be akin to the original... I think by combining all existing credits free shots (from LDs, German DVD etc.) you could reconstitute the shot and the fade out with near HD quality. Don't waste your time with ANY Italian DVD or Blu-Ray. No matter when they were released or who released them, they were remixed since the very start. If they are mono or stereo it only means they are downmixes.

I preserve movies as they first appeared in Italy. Thanks given by: Stamper

Thanks, so I'm guessing then only the french mono and german mono exist on DVD (in addition to the american versions).
Any other dubs will have to come from VHS or LDs.

Sadly my Italian LD has laser rot, and the capture is very noisy and full of cracks and pops...

I worked on it a little, a couple months back. I think I could get rid of the Ellison credit by matting in some previous frames to cover it and rebuilding th fade. The bigger problem is the Donna Smith credit which has been moved up to the driving into the distance shot before the Ellison credit. That also has to be removed but then put back into the end crawl as the first credit as the fade out is going on. That might be a little more difficult to fix.
Maybe I can reproduce the Donna Smith credit using the same font and blurring it a bit to match the rest.
Then using FCPX I can make it crawl. All you have to do it match the craw to the original. Regarding the last frames of the shot and the fade out, there are two solutions: either you guys do a Pan Up using all the available sources for the whole shot, or use it only for the last frames, but this might show a drop in quality when you switch from the master to the PanUp section. As this is a wide shot, PanUp might do the trick. By combining 3/4 versions you might get decent detail out of it. However you would need to stabilize all the shots in resolve before so that they match overlayed.
