They have to re-re-do special effects in 4k instead of the original SD from the original DVD release... I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm not sure what there is to disbelieve. That's an official announcement. A 4K restoration of the director's edition was greenlit.

I read this on The Digital Bits as well. It's pretty hard to believe, but would be great to see.

Like Dek said, this was offically anouced by Paramount: it has a full greenlight and a budget. It's planned to come out in 8 months. After like 14 year of bugging them it looks like David C. Fein and the others finally got it greenligt through Paramount Plus, lol. Streaming's good for something after all.

It was previewed on Star Trek on paramount plus Twitter page so yeah it really is coming let’s hope they do a director’s cut of Star Trek V soon too.
