Excalibur (1981) - Original Mono Mix from US-LD

There was an extra scene in the TV cut also!
But it's nothing too special a bit of dialogue that is exposition.

The only scenes Boorman admits to as being cut from the film was a section between Arthur's birth and then the older Arthur the time of which the villages burned and mob rule before order was restored by King Arthur the one who drew the sword from the stone.

So one can imagine this came after the sequence where Arthur was born and then the time leap. As a bit of a context in how the land became unruly with no true leader.

Could someone share a remux of the HD DVD containing the original and French audio as well?
I dare not buy the HD-DVD because the majority of Warners are rot.
I can take care of LD synchronization if someone provided it to me

I've got the LD with digital mono, but when I initially compared it last year, I thought it sounded poor and preferred the 5.1 mix on the blu-ray. Iirc, they weren't drastically different anyways but I remember the mono track sounding a lot more muffled and a lot less alive...the 5.1 mix is still pretty weak and anemic though. Would like to hear if any of the LD stereo mixes sound better.

I'm new to this forum, but would like to contribute to this restoration if I can.

I don't have the original Laserdisc release of Excalibur with the mono mix BUT... I do own two copies of the original green clamshell Betamax.

I'm not setup for a bit perfect capture yet, but I do have the capability to capture analog audio either with a Tascam DR-60D or by analog pass-through via a Canon ZR-10 FireWire to a 2009 MacBook Pro running Final Cut Pro 7.

For Beta decks, I have 5 fully working machines (SL-20, SL-2000, HF360, HF300 and a recently reconditioned HF900).

If I were to capture the mono analogue audio (and video for reference) from these two Beta tapes, would these tracks be of interest to any members here? Or is it "ride or die" Laserdisc or nothing?

It's not unheard of for a tape track to end up sounding better then what's on LD. If you have the tapes and means to capture it's worth checking out.

It would definitely be worth it from a preservation standpoint I'd say, and I'm sure plenty of people would be interested in checking it out.

But yeah, Beta's audio quality wouldn't be as good as a digital LD track and probably not even LD analog (assuming proper mastering), so I don't think anyone would blame you if you didn't want to go to the trouble of capturing it.
