I think they used the old DVD transfer. If you watch this crap in 1080p it looks like 480p. Hence the different framing?
Looking for the "right" Terminator 2 color grading...

Surely a 3D version would warrant a 4K remaster. Or do we have to wait for an actual UHD home release down the road?

"The project was initiated by Lightstorm (lei), James Cameron’s production company, DMG Entertainment and STUDIOCANAL. James Cameron’s team oversaw this 3D conversion from start to finish. This highly experienced and award-winning team had already supervised Titanic’s 3D conversion and is currently working on the Avatar sequels. The original 35mm negative was scanned and then restored in 4k at Deluxe L.A., under the supervision of Geoff Burdick, Lightstorm. The film was calibrated in 4k by Skip, James Cameron’s colorist, at Technicolor Hollywood, with a selection of the best 35mm prints from the film’s first release. The film was then converted into 3D by Stereo D (Star Wars, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic world). This work lasted almost a year and was monitored daily by Lightstorm’s teams, to produce a high-end 3D version at the level of the latest 3D releases from U.S. Studios. The 3D version then benefited from a calibration and a specific finish at Technicolor Hollywood, still under the supervision of Skip and James Cameron himself."

It's all true, one don't really expect the Cameron team not to have checked out the scan, or being fooled by being given a 15 years old scan!
Also some stills were released with full framing, which never existed before. Those are Oneg full frame scans thus = PR is true.

whatever it is, i'll probably end up buying the 2015 bluray anyway, because I have an OSD about original films, so I can't watch the new remaster with the changed face on the stunt!
(i could put up with the green in some scenes, although I think the transfer may end up being scrubbed eventually) |
