[Cancelled] Mad Max 2/Road Warrior Regrade (Warner 97 DVD and LD)
#31
As good as his word, Jonno was nice enough to give me a copy of the Road Warrior LD and there is a color difference. It seems that the LD is the same master from what I can see (cuts, damage, dirt, etc) but the DVD has a pink/magenta/red tint to it versus the LD which has a more yellow tint. I kind of expected the tint on the DVD since it seems that some of the 1st gen DVDs from Warners used LD masters and added a pink/magenta/red tint (see Blade Runner)

You can see the difference but overall the LD is pretty close to the DVD especially when compared to the BD

I'm leaning towards the LD as a better source for colors.

Anyone have an opinion on the LD vs the DVD. I'm leaning towards using the LD as a guide instead.

Cool, just keep the deep blues of the DVD -- discount the magenta and yellow shifts and you have the master colors.

I much prefer the colours of the LD so I would personally use that as a guide instead of the DVD.

I think you should post few screenshots of regraded BD using both DVD and LD, to show the final result instead of the "input"...

The LD as washed out colors so it don't gel. It clearly have issues due to the limitations of the medium.

Your version should look like the DVD, without the pink shift.

Good idea and I agree but I haven't done any work to grade the BD to the LD yet. In fact that's why I was asking, if it was worth the effort for me to regrade the LD's colors or stick with the DVD. Let me see what I can do.
